Self Shipping

Interfaces for various carriers change, and seems I can't quite adapt. The work for the New York SAQA exhibit Contrast was mailed out today, happily nestled with tissue paper, wrapped in plastic, tied with cloth strips. Only I sent it to MYSELF. You can see I'm not quite up to par. Hope it arrives tomorrow!
 

Packing

In a week, I've got a wedding to go to. A friend is picking up the cake I've made, as I won't be able to transport them. To help her navigate, I've made boxes to travel them, just like an art handler would do. So, always document with a photo, right?
 

Signed and Sealed

Before I boxed up the quilt for Quilt National '23 I signed the front lower corner. I've done this on all my large works since 1981. That one went to Quilt National, too. I hope I can find the way to visit the show come May 2023. 
 

Traveling Home to Stay Put

I dropped off a suitcase of works for a quilt show for the first weekend in May. Hours after the hand off, the organizers wrote the show was cancelled. So, we slapped a label on them and FedEx shipped them home. Safe, but quarantined a few more days before I open it.

Easy Stuffings

I've got a quilt to send off to a show, found a box long enough, but a bit roomy. So, I've wrapped the work around a pool noodle, covered it in fabric, then plastic. To take up the air, I've added three more noodles. Perfectly packed. Now to the FedEx office.

Not a Bundle of Joy

I work with museums, and for museums, and lecture on proper textile handling. So, it is always with unease that I accept a return from a show that featured my work. This, dear readers, is not how to handle packing and returning. I'd have to write a small chapter on this, so just say, the work is happy to be home with me.

Mummy Bags in a Body Bag

Can you believe that my precious art works are in the middle of this plastic bundle? They (those mummy bags quilts) are about to take a wild ride to be exhibited locally. And you can bet they will be chatting on the wall about how they got there. Ha!
