Out of the Gate for Quilt=Art=Quilts

I wrongly estimated the times for tonight's opening, so had a very quick glance at the works now on view at Schweinfurth Art Center for Quilts=Art=Quilts this year. The title wall is Paula Kovarik's work. I'll be back for a couple of lectures, and will make time to check out all the works.

Sweet Line Up

Regina Sweet took my Surface Design Sampler class last fall at the Schweinfurth. Yesterday a group of art quilters met and her works, started from the prints she did in the class, gave evidence to both the diversity of technique and power of multiples. Well done, Regina! Thanks for sharing.

Mourning Urn

Susie Brandt put a cemetery urn below the weeping willow in this homage to a palampore. I so enjoyed the works that are in the last days at the Schweinfurth Art Center. And the urn is for Sandra.

Today at the Schweinfurth Art Center

Part of the exhibitions at the Schweinfurth "Material Remix" is this wonderful room of textile works by Susie Brandt. The large works channel Indian Palampores, and are done in her wild style. Don't miss this if you are anywhere near Auburn, New York. Ends August 16.

Monoprinting on the Line

Making these is so much fun. I am using hand dyed fabric that was soaked in soda ash, then printed with thickened dye. I'll be doing this for the October workshop at the Schweinfurth. But for now, these will be up for grabs at the GVQC quilt show in early June.

We Studio Arts Quilt Associates (of anyone who can get to Auburn, New York) are meeting this Saturday, April 18 at the Schweinfurth Art Center from 11 - 2. You too are welcome to come as my guest. We'll share our work, bring a bag lunch and do some generally good talking about contemporary quilts. Just show up!

I've Got the Long View

Today's opening of "Made in New York" at the Schweinfurth Art Center was packed. My work The Easy Life is seen from waaaay across the gallery on the far wall. The show has every kind of medium from silver, to wood, to photography, to bookmaking (printing), and in between. I love the mix.

In the Details

For one more week, the Schweinfurth has my work What Lies Within on view in the Quilts=Art=Quilts exhibition. This is the detail I sent for the jurors to decide on whether to accept my work, or let it go.

Visit to Schweinfurth

Many of my friends who are far away send their art quilts to the Schweinfurth's exhibit Quilts=Art=Quilts. This is the view on a crisp spring day. I stopped in today to see my work (yes, an art quilt) in the juried Made in New York exhibit, which has every conceivable medium.

Last Look Back

I popped in to the Schweinfurth's Quilts=Art=Quilts exhibition on their closing day to get one more look at the works. Still thinking of my likes and dislikes. I very grateful that this collection of fiber works is so close by -- and that they would have my work as part of this show.

Schweinfurth Trunk Show

Fiber Peeps was invited to speak at the Schweinfurth's trunk show series. Here Jeanne Simpson talks about her work. Bev Kondolf, on left, and Nancy Hicks, on right, due the honors. Priscilla Kibbee is just leaving my picture frame and Marcia DeCamp is off camera. I make the last of the bunch. Fans tell me to add a link for more info. http://auburnpub.com/news/local/fiber-peeps-show-their-stuff-at-schweinfurth/article_e4e435b2-7c9a-5496-93d3-28269b37ee21.html

I Can 'Splain This

Sunday's trunk show at the Schweinfurth Art Center has me and my friends, the "Fiber Peeps," on at 2:00. I will have this Exquisite Corpse piece with me and I will TELL ALL. (Well, not all, but enough.) See you at the talk!

My group of fiber artists (we call ourselves the "Fiber Peeps") is set to talk at the Schweinfurth Memorial Art Center this Sunday at 2:00 for a trunk show, in conjunction with the Quilts=Art=Quilts. We are Marcia DeCamp, Beverly Kondolf, Jeanne Simpson, Nancy P. Hicks, and Priscilla Kibbee. Linda Bachman is in sunny Florida, but her quilts will be shown. Join us, please.

Duality

Schweinfurth, where the Quilts=Art=Quilts show will hang, looks for works for their small quilt raffle. I have put these two cheek to jowl, and like them. So, maybe this will be my donation. You will  have to see for yourself at the end of this month.

The Aftermath in Auburn

Gathering after the opening of the Schweinfurth's triple hitter tonight are some of the principle stars. Genie Barnes, Elin Noble, Kenise Barnes and (representing the audience of all the rest of us) Priscilla Kibbee. Wow, what a name dropper you are!

SAQA Meeting at the Schweinfurth

Donna Lamb, director at the Schweinfurth, is here with Marilyn Belford. Studio Art Quilt Associates met at the art center today for a lunch and meeting and open-to-the-public show and tell. Total fun for sure. If you could have seen all the talent in the room, it would have blown you away. Thank you Schweinfurth.

Next in the Queue

Working on this, hoping to have it done for Schweinfurth's trunk show for SAQA in December 11. Yes, you can see a little "bling" with the gold foil. And yes, I will bury those dangling threads. Geesh.

Closer Look at Quilt Inspiration Group

This photo shows the mob scene  after a QIG trunk show at the Schweinfurth. Angela is describing her work, a felt based, fused printed, felted, needleworked image. Very intriquing to me as well as Caris. And how serious we are! I told Angela that there are drugs you can get to overcome this obsession. Unless the obsession is the drug.

You Can Pet the Coat..

...but don't touch the quilts at the Schweinfurth. Here is Liz, to the terror of Priscilla, getting close to Marcia's wonderful coat. It is all right, the coat can take it, Priscilla. Quilts=Art=Quilts is on view until January 8, 2012.

Mummies Merged

My second piece at the Schweinfurth Quilts=Art=Quilts is here. Gives you an idea of how large it is. I am piecing four monoprints that have lots of drawing on top. Fun to look at with those 3-D chroma type glasses.
