Passing Through Pittsburgh

Xia Gao's work "Passing" is part of the half of the Fiberart International exhibition I saw last week in Pittsburgh. It has three layers of buckrum that are burned in places to reveal an image. The middle portrait is difficult to see (let alone photograph) and the work is haunting.

No Place to Hide a Dark Heart...

...is the title of this piece from Susan Avishai. Her piece is part of the Fiberart International exhibit in Pittsburgh. I've seen just half of the show, and that's plenty to get my vote for unusual handling of anything fiber. This -- and just you try to hide a dark heart -- is a deconstructed men's dress shirt.

Using that Old Fabric

I can't remember how many years ago I met Tracey at "Quilting Around Chautauqua," a now has-been show, and she bought this great piece of shibori fabric. I don't make that much of shibori anymore, so it was my duty to get her to cut it up! You can see how her New Big Leaf will be a winner.

Added to the Suitcase

These silk scarves are going in my suitcase to visit Pittsburgh tomorrow. I'll be there for a lecture and a Wednesday workshop. If you're around, come hear me. I don't think the North Pittsburgh Quilters Guild would mind.
