The Randomness of Life

Each time I'm at the studio I grab a piece off fabric and hang it outside my door. It shows its individual merit, and it serves as a marker for my fellow building mates that I am indeed there now and again. This one made me think of holiday ornaments even though as I printed it I had no intention of that theme. 
 

Memory Lane

I gave a talk today to a group in Muskoka, Canada. Part of the lecture had me going through  history of my work, what I was doing along the way, and this image came up. For a year I wrapped my front yard tree in a piece of printed fabric I made. Each day, rain, sun, sleet, ice. What a year, right?
 

Nearing the End of the Year

The Yard in a Yard is telling me that it's about time to stop. I told the tree it'll be just a few more days till I've got a year's anniversary of draping it with a yard of printed fabric. I've been vaccinated twice, no side effects other than a sore arm, and that was to be my goal for each day of hanging. 

 

Showing Pokey Bolton My Tree

Today I was invited to chat with Pokey Bolton on Instagram. I walked through my foot of snow to live video the world to show my tree with yard bungeed to it. I've done this since Mid-March of 2020. Every day, another yard. So, here is a still. And you don't have to be standing in the snow to enjoy!
 

Glad to Be Inside

Just after our Glorious Prints class reunion (January's class) I ventured out to hang today's print on my tree. This is printing weather for me -- no where to go, no need to go, no want to go. Happy to mix up a gallon of print paste and dyes and get back to the print table.
 

A Day of Distraction

I fully intended to get my eyes on the design wall and hands on the rotary cutter. But the inauguration had me glued to the news. I managed to cut and sew for a while, missing the entry to the White House, and did scoot out to hang this on the tree. Glad this happens every four years.  
 

Christmas Green

As we brown-down for winter, and snow is a no-show, I thought today's Christmas wrap should be green. (This has been going on every day since March 15.) I wish all in the blogosphere a lovely Christmas Night. And thank you, my friends, for your company each day. 
 

Happy Wave in the Breeze

Today's yard in the yard is waving happy because I've now got a full house for my October virtual printing class. That means I'll have to add one in November.  Maybe November 9 - 13.  I'd love to have a class for those who've already taken a class. To take it up a notch. Go Big, Go Bold, or Start with Dark. 
 

Art Imitates Nature

Today's forecast called for lighting and harsh weather. So, when I looked for the next tree hugger Yard in the Yard I picked this. It seemed to have the storm already there, waiting for Mother Nature to battle with it. I'll pick a sunny one for tomorrow.

Stacking New Prints

Well, thank you to all who saw my fabric on my web site "shop" and bought some for yourself. But now I've got to add more fabric on line. I'll use some of these, and spend next week making more. Good thing I'm not going anywhere!

Yard in the Yard

Since I've been locked down in my artist's retreat, I've hugged each day a tree with a yard of my printed fabric. Here is a little movie about that. And yes, some of these are on my web site "shop" in case you need to have one for your tree.

Still Going

As I turned to take the record shot of each day's Yard in the Yard, I realized the light had changed. Or, more clearly, the leaves filling out were creating shadow and patterns that didn't exist in the spring light. The Yards were blending into the landscape, receding.

Yard in the Yard

It goes on through snow, rain, sun. I keep putting up a yard in my yard. Can't think when I'll stop. Maybe when this restriction is lifted. Meanwhile, I've got a statement tree.

Yard in the Yard But Solo

For over 30 days I've hung out a printed yard on my front yard tree. Today they get washed and ironed and sorted to sell, keep, or use immediately. Sometimes one just says "I'm just fine by myself" and begs to be quilted up just as is. Might be this one is one of those.

Just One of Many

About two weeks ago (or more) I bungeed a printed yard to my front yard tree. It's been fun, whether or not passersby care. Wait! Yard in the Yard! That't it!
