Starting With White

When asked about my printing, the question of 'what do you start with' is often asked. I try not to scrunch up my face in that "what?" look, and answer that it is just plain white cotton. Here it's drying after being soda-soaked in preparation for printing. I soak, let drain, then hang. 
 

Rolling Along

No, these aren't toilet rolls for the next pandemic wave. These are four rolls of five hundred meters of pfd cotton. Somehow last order of 300 went without blinking. So, it was time to add to the stash. Each class I teach takes 15 yards myself. I've counted about 8 classes so far before winter. 
 

First Rule of Dye

...is that fabric colors always look deeper and darker when wet. As one of the Yard in the Yard series,  they are taken in from outside, and rewashed. Wet, they are vibrant and wonderful. This, friends, is the difference between paint (true wet/dry) and dye (not true to color till processed).

110 Yards of Fun

I usually order a 100 meter roll at a time. But a slip of the tongue had me accepting 500 meters. No problem, it will get printed in no time. Come November!

Measure for Measure

To get ready for "Glorious Prints", a class in May at Pro Chemical and Dye, I'm measuring out yards (plus a bit extra) to take. I've mentioned this before, but since my counter is 36" high, I let the fabric hit the floor, nick it with a scissors, and tear off the piece.
