You Know the Tools Necessary

It's time to sew down the facing and add the sleeve. And that means I can binge some mindless Netflix series. So yes, the scissors, thread, pins, and needle cozies up with the remote gang.

How to Add a Sleeve

Some would say "I always quilt with wine" but I don't get that. For me, it's listening to a great podcast or watching the tele. I'm almost finished with the next quilt's hanging sleeve. You can see me adding that bit of pleat for the rod. And all my junk moves along on a tray. Remote at the ready.

Sleeves for Ikats

A friend's hangings needed sleeves sewn on, so I obliged. It's mindless but careful work, and I managed to get most of them sewn (there were five) binging a Netflix series with 10 episodes. Now they are returned and ready too hang.

All Around the House

Counting the bathrooms, my house has seven rooms. Which means I can set up projects just about anywhere. On the living room table is a friend's weaving that needs a sleeve. And handy for getting "away" from the studio.

Sleeves. Can't Go Without

Always, even for a functional couch quilt, add a sleeve. That will save looking at your work nailed, pinned, taped or clamped (between wood cleats) to the wall. It happens; I've seen it. I've sewn a sleeve with wrong sides together so there's a finished seam when I look inside, which is never.

Time for Thanks

As I sew the sleeve on this piece, I am thinking of all the wonderful dinners I shared this past year. From British Columbia, to Oregon, Massachusetts, and Florida -- with many plates in between. It was lovely to sit, talk, eat with new friends and old. I look forward to a new year of doing it all again. Thank you all, my companions! And Happy New Year.
