Coupeville and Canadians

Here's a typical day at the Pacific Northwest Art School in Coupeville, WA, where I'm teaching fabric printing When I asked today about my July 21-25 class, and my concern for Canada students, I got a reply from the director and board of PNWAS. They are offering a 15% discount on workshops over $330 for 2025 to show that current US policies are not a reflection of the school's policies. Bravo PNWAS!
 

Time for Folds

Tina Struthers' work "Untamed" was beautifully worked in denim, velvet, and thread. What intrigued me was the variety of textures she made with simple and complex folds. This was part of the World of Threads Exhibition in Oakville, Canada.

Botanically Beautiful

Ellen Ramsey's piece "Satori" has a way with layering and transparencies that give this woven tapestry great depth. I love the square format, the large "X" and breaks in the columns. Saw this at the World of Threads exhibit yesterday in Oakville, Canada. Go, if you can.

Visible and Invisible

Sun Young Kang's piece  "In Between Presence and Absence" covered the floor at the World of Threads exhibition in Oakville, Canada. Made of paper cast forms, it became a see of white and off white forms. I found it intriguing, and she states her interest is showing the visible, invisible, and emptiness.

On My Way Back

I'm still reflecting on two weeks in Saskatchewan and British Columbia. A friend remarked that no matter where I go, even to remote and small "cities," that there are people who are happy to gather and speak the language of textile design. Stratospheric idea, eh?

Water, Sticks, Reflections

What to do with those sticks that are about in the yard? Add them to the bridge for the birds. This is the view at Joshua Creek Heritage Center. Don't need vast body of water, just water.

Alice in Wonderland

Like falling down the rabbit hole (think Alice in Wonderland), today's visit to the Joshua Creek Heritage Site, in Oakville, Canada, led to a different universe. Sybil Rampen, here touring us around her fascinating collection, knows how to live. And for a brief part of today, it was joy, pleasure, and a wonderful land. Thank you, Sybil.

Montreal Moment

Celebrating today the graduation of daughter #2, and her Canadian diploma. Universally accepted, I am sure.
