Lilac Festival

We visited the lilacs in Highland Park today hoping to dodge the rain. It turned out to be a mostly rain free day, and the lilac were beauts. I also managed to embroider my name on half a dozen works that are slated to be shipped out for an exhibition. But they make dull images compared to these lilacs.
 

Back Home with Magnolias

There is a famous park in Rochester designed by Frederick Law Olmstead that hold hundreds of lilacs. In fact, there is a Lilac Festival every year in honor of them. But I visit Highland Park to see the magnolias there. They are strong, full of color, and have a smooth kind bark. My reward for the day's work. 
 

Kind Days of Christmas 9

Yesterday I took a walk around Highland Park with a friend, came across the reservoir there. I was reminded of Wayne Thiebaud's work. This little poster is from visiting his show in San Francisco with a friend two years ago. See -- kindness of friends -- just keeps linking. 

Get Out and Smell the Magnolias

A visit from my daughter finally got me out to take a walk in the park. We wore masks, stayed far apart, and dodged all the others doing the same. This magnolia didn't seem to mind yesterday's snowfall, and showed off what makes it, well, showy.

Pink Me, Pink Me

I've been printing with pink for days now. Perhaps that's why this saucer magnolia bloom had me swoon. Highland Park, the perfect evening to see this spectacle. And I mean spectacle. If you're near this Rochester gem of a park, go see for yourself.

Sure Sign of Spring

Mom is overlooking the pansy bed at the Highland Park here in Rochester. In a couple of days it will be overrun with food machines, loud music, trinkets, and lots of garbage cans. We liked it just the way it is. But, the Lilac Festival goes on regardless.
