New and Just Hung Up

Even without its name, it's up and happy to greet me. I have two walls that will take a piece this size, and they are easy to rehang. I'll take this on to the studio for First Friday, as well as the Blue Ice Leaves one. If you're in Rochester, find me 6-9 at the Anderson Arts Building on 250 N. Goodman Street. Studio 301.
 

Up Close on Leaves

Thought you'd like to see details of the work. These go in the folder for the work and are used should an exhibition entry request a detail shot. I try to show processes, but also a well edited and well composed image. It matters that the detail shot is pleasingly composed. Top, yes; bottom, not so much.
 

The Continuing Leaf Series

Found on the street, this is one large Gingko leaf. I love the shape, the fan if it, the color, the tooth gap quality. Next time I get leaf prints going, I've got to clone this shape. Keep a file, friends, of the images that cause you to copy the intent. Then make use of them.
 

Transition

I'm always searching for graphics, and this shadow of leaves on a window describes our 9 hour drive from the Adirondacks to the civilization of Baltimore. I've some work to do here, and will get to transposing this in a few weeks when I'm back in the studio.
 

Recurring Themes

Sunday's walk presented two of my favorite subjects -- lines and leaves. I often used both when I print fabric, and like to juxtapose a linear screen with one that has a definitive large shape, usually one of a leaf. I was drawn to this duo, and now once I write about it, know why is is so attractive. 
 

Leaf Forms

I'm always filing away shapes and forms to use in my work. File this under "earlets" for the shapes I love, but this time sticking out of that paddle shape. Bonus is the great prickly texture on the plant's leaves. Any edit of this photo makes a great start for a composition.

Botanical Turns

A visit to the Marie Selby Botanical Garden in Sarasota today was where I took note of this plant that gently bent in a soft curl -- spiral really. Those leaves splaying out made me want to try this with the New Big Leaf freezer paper template. But, it'll have to be another time.

Progress, Slowly

Two Hundred Years in Great Shape

Thursday I visited a historic landmark in Naples, New York that has original stenciling from the 1800s. I admired these shapes from work I did 30 years ago, and finally got to see them. Still thrilled to see those flat, cut out shapes. And notice the leaves? Love them leaves.

Mom / Leaves

Mom and I often visited the nursing home's courtyard. I can't say this is where I got the color scheme for the New Big Leaf Quilt (I'll unveil tomorrow) but when I saw this, I had to put two and two together.
