Waiting for Dye to Dry

Somehow my silk scarves have been selling from my web site shop and I need to make more. These are printed to silk crepe de chine, and after printing this one, I though it would be nice to draw on it. But it needs to be dry before I take that step. Easy, I've plenty more to do.
 

Mark Making

Before I shut down the print studio for a while, I dragged out a piece I hadn't finished and added some dark line to it. Now that I see what I've got, it may have to be a landscape. We'll do this and more when we take on mark making at Pro Chem. Can't wait.

On the Wall

I've finished the last Take Two for a while. I've not got a good name for this, so will have to let it hang around on the wall for now till inspiration hits. Is is made of just two, but the majority is that liberal and fun whole piece.

Silk Scarves for Winter

The same dye process for cotton I use for printing silk scarves. The crepe di chine is a lovely weight, and these are half a yard wide and cut two yards long. So, joined in a long loop, they will wrap three times around for a T-neck, or twice, if that's what's called for.

It's Not That Difficult

Great gripping fear overcomes you when you cut these fabrics apart. Unless you look at the tall stack of yards that is waiting in the wings, and you know you've got more. So, here goes. More cutting and sewing.

Window Works

I live in a small cape coddie, where the wall space is taken up by windows. So, after finishing the facing and sleeve, I wanted to see how it looked with normal furnishings. In the dark of winter and no curtain, it's a good solution for now.

Beginnings..

...And ending the week's class at Pro Chem, where we all learned to dye this type of fabric. This is one I've made, and Vicki's choice for her next quilt challenge. But might have been made by any of the great women in class this week. Thanks for having me!

In the Hot Seat

Using a dye painted light canvas made last year, it was time to put the canvas too the bottom, so to speak, and make a Queen Anne into a Anne Shirley (lots of red hair, from of Anne of Green Gables.)

Waste Not, Want Not

Knowing I'd be unable to print for a few days, I had to use up the remaining dyes. So, another large piece of linen and the attack of the putty knife. I love the way it comes out, but I'll have to let it sit for a night to see how it washes out.

Birthday Gifts

Mary and I share birthdays next to each other. Yesterday we got together and I finished this apron that I had direct dye painted. I used some textile pens to add the squiggles, drawing in some natural forms. May have to do another for gifting to me.

From the Wash(out)

Part of the experiments I did out on dye/print day at my friend's barn. This has some monoprinting, some direct dye drawing, and some pulls of color through it all. This is about a 1/2 yard of fabric. Might add some more later on. Next month we're going to do some discharge and textile paint stamping.

Test of Time

A bit from the dye day yesterday. I left the right side to 'batch' longer -- like a day -- before washing out. The left side washed about six hours after I applied the dye. Can't see a whole big difference, so for the impatient in me, I'll not wait to wash.

Being Direct

Thought I might try adding the leftover "dirty" paste directly to the soda soaked material. With a bit of texture tucked underneath, I have this lovely pattern. I'll wash it out tomorrow.
