January at the Beach

Our January has had very little snowfall, and so I took advantage of easy driving to visit a friend and her new beach front home. It is so refreshing to be out and look so far away. Yes, it's cloudy, and yes, it's cold. But the landscape is compelling. 
 

Art Imitates Life

Sunday's visit to the Maryland Baltimore Zoo and this shot reminded me of the previous post. The color palette, the line work, and the spots of brilliant color are here too. If you have a photo you find compelling, steal its qualities. 

 

Leaf Forms

I'm always filing away shapes and forms to use in my work. File this under "earlets" for the shapes I love, but this time sticking out of that paddle shape. Bonus is the great prickly texture on the plant's leaves. Any edit of this photo makes a great start for a composition.

Using a Photo to Jump Start

The second day of my Florida workshop, and An is scrutinizing a photo to see what area she will use for her composition. I know, it is supposed to be lunch, but there was NO REST from this group of hard working, and terribly fun women. Loved my visit.
