Final Print Day

What a great week to spend printing and exploring techniques for using thickened dye. I love a virtual winter class to break the long darkness of the winter. Thank you all my glorious printers from England to California. Keep printing, and use that glorious fabric that you've made.

View of the Print Table

The end of the workshop day has my table with a partially finished work, a demo piece as well. I'd hate to have those colors go wasted, so I'll grab another fabric and lay down a background fabric. Then dinner, then return to finish other that ar waiting on the shelves. I love winter!

Starters

I've stacked two prints that are starters for our homework assignment. We'll start with similar motifs, then take them to completely different conclusions. It's a fun way to look at composition, and the results I'll try to show you later this week.

December's the Time to Print

Many have written me about a winter virtual class in printing. I've a few spaces left for next month's online class where we print in real time! If you've written to me I'll try to find the list I keep and let you know, but this image may help. More info is on my web site. www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Gathering of Printers

It's hard to overstate the joy of seeing a group of people engaging in so much fun as they turn out piece after piece of printed fabric. Our walkaround of the last three days (only three!) works was eye-opening. Thank you all for sharing your talent with others, and for keeping the pace!

Morning Gathering

The Art Quilt Tahoe class gathers each morning to see results of the previous day. Always very cool to hear other's take on the print. These keep getting more and more complex and wonderful. A great class and wonderful layout with room to print.

Far Reaching Little Town

This reproduction of a lithograph is booming Rochester, NY 1868 with a CIRCUS in town. It's the best way to explain today's events. Eight wonderful women from France to Maryland, Pennsylvania, Montana, California, Wyoming (!!!) and New Zealand met to print virtually. Can it be more fascinating?

Glorious Prints Virtually

I've got a nearly full class, and one spot opened from a student who ran into medical issues. So, should you want to virtually (but just like a live we-work-in-real-time workshop) learn just how I made these fabrics, join us for the October 16-20 class. On my website www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Virtual Classes

I finally nailed dates to slot virtual classes for this fall. Some folks can't make the dates -- how could I know they were cruising the Nile?? There is one new class, and all are variations of how I print and design improvisationally. No surprise there! They are on the website www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Dryer Results

Demos and some printing from last week is finally getting in and out of the wash. The colors are so vibrant I'm wondering if living in the gray last days of winter had anything to do with this. I've still a good dozen to finish, some are from December!

Demos are the Best

My new favorite think is this thick, clean cut line. Make with tyvek, I've left the background and the middle, and printed just the line. A shape that came quickly as a derivative of my leaf design, it was so much fun to print in the Glorious Prints workshop today. One more day of fun!

The Fun We Have

Today's Glorious Prints workshop got an impromptu lesson on using your idpad in zoom - where the zoom goes missing and you need to get it back! For some, this was serious, for me it was serious fun. I love that we continue to figure out how to navigate, use, and create what we need. So, thank you  onsite techie help!

Off They Go

March is just around the corner. It seems that way, at least. So the folks in the Glorious Prints class will be looking for plastic and tyvek. Thought I'd send them on a bunch. And I packed my new favorite Roman brand scraper. Christmas in February!

Yes, Joan, Ice Cream

Demos care little for how the space looks as I flip through pieces that I'm working with. The week's class is over, I've picked up the floor, wiped down the tables, put away the gear. Now, Joan, is my ice cream reward.

Where It Falls

The first fall day and I was printing -- a demo, of course --- with a "print the table" process. I love the soft strike that a  monoprint makes, and if I print from a graphic on the surface, I can draw through that graphic to change it. More color and printing after that pull gave me this.

Printing Demo

Sometimes I can demonstrate a printing technique and have a chance afterward to finish the piece. This was printing with cut paper. I followed with stenciling. It looks high contrast and bright, but my guess is that it will lighten since the base color is turquoise. We'll see.

Setting Up a Background

Virtual Glorious Prints started today. I layered some prints as background for more printing techniques in the next days. And looking at these, I think that the falling leaves has started to influence my color pallet. Well, at least it's not snowing. Yet.

Your Seat is Available

I'll start the fall virtual classes in a week and a half from now. There is one spot left in Glorious Prints. Anyone who's taken this class will tell you how much there is to learn, and how accomplished they became in five days. So, don't take my word for it.

It's Hard to Know

An amalgam of techniques was used here, most likely for a demo at the Hudson River Valley Workshop class. After it came home, I added the strong striped shapes across the top. And probably the background color. It's hard to know if I should keep this, but I think I'll let it go. Off to the web shop.

The Joy of Printing

It takes a few days to understand the limits and possibilities of using thickened dye to print. But then, wow. This is made in one go, just adding and adding, until Ann walks it out to the clothesline. The she'll go back and do it all again. Joy.
