Don't Think It's All Fun

It's not all fun and games, these workshops, sometimes I have to do reconiscience and gather data. This is for the Bar Harbor class "Printing the Colors of the Sea" and I figure that east coast is east coast, so I'm tracking these blues out of Provincetown on the Cape for use in September. Join me to see if I get it right.
 

Counting Quilting

While I was in Cape Cod a couple of weeks ago, I got to revisit Joe Cunningham's exhibit. To see work up close and in person is always a treat. The scale, the construction, and the 'true' color (always dependent on the light) is valuable info. Since my work today was mundane, here's a detail of "4,000 Beagles" by Joe.
 

Within the Frame Framed

A student took me in the act of taking a picture. You can see our makeshift pin wall, a darn good composition, and happy response to finishing. It was fun, even if there was a blue sky, the ocean a short drive away, and early August. We had stamina!

 

Plein Air on the Cape

As I look back at images I've gathered from my class on improv design on Cape Cod I happened on this. It is the spirit of making do, as our class was a bit wee small for our growing compositions. Outside the door was a lovely bit of shade and room to compost with the pieces we had assembled. A nice day indeed.
 

Within the Frame, Too!

As I was packing, sorting, tossing things today for my trip to Cape Cod and the Cahoon Museum's three day design class, I realized that this piece was a direct descendent of the Within the Frame mentaility. And it can be made square, so I can finish it and put it in the "Be There, Be Square" show in October.

I should mention that I'll be in person in Cape Cod's Cahoon Museum for a three day improv design workshop "Within the Frame" August 9 - 11. Although most of my teaching gigs are printing fabric, I love to dive in a pile of fabric and reassemble, getting things like this. Join me, there are spots left. 
 

Before and After

I can't remember if I'd added the beginning and ending of the quilt Joe Cunningham made for the Cahoon Museum. While Joe and Seda Tarek worked on the cherry picker, I layed down the lower 12 feet of spinnaker nylon. Staples did the job. It'll be up till mid-September.
 

June's Full Moon

You know me and the full moon. Can't ever get a good image from home, but gosh, on the Cape, no problemo. So, here's the "every small town pseudo town square" where we had dinner Tuesday. Full enough for me!
 

The Stuff Inside

All the outside wrapped, I checked out the inside of the Cahoon Museum and Joe Cunningham's solo exhibit. It's a powerhouse of piecing, and a heavy dose of current events. If you find yourself on Cape Cod this summer, stop and see it up close. And there is Julie Silber's exhibit of 200 years of quilts there too.

I love how this great boulder just perches. Had to get to Woods Hole for the sunset and dinner. Glad I shot this photo before the fog rolled in.
