In the Garden Vicki's Version

Vickie Coykendall used my pattern "In the Garden" to make this quilt years ago. It was the first thing spotted at the Genesee Valley Quilt Show. When I spoke with Vickie, we agreed that although it was originally a raffle quilt, why not again. What do you say? Here is the original. Pattern on my website.

 

Hanging With My Quilt Show Friends

Yesterday I was invited to talk about the exhibit of the NJ/NY SAQA group "By Contrast." It was part of the Genesee Valley Quilt Fest, and I felt at home with friends I've known for years, as well as some in the recent times. This SAQA show will travel for two more venues. Then my work (seen behind me) is home.
 

Roomful of Leaves

 

Twenty intrepid quilters from the Genesee Valley Quilt Club meet in my New Big Leaf workshop today and built leaves in every color combination there could be. And they were glorious, both the leaves and the quilters. My thanks to the club and the good people who spent the day learning freezer paper templates.

Lecture Today

The Genesee Valley Quilt Club is the Rochester New York mothership for countless quilt groups in the surrounding region. They've been around for over 80 years, and today's lecture was by Jean McCleary on her technique for translating her photographs to contemporary art quilts. Always news, always fun.
 

Setting Sail on Dry Land

My hometown quilt guild is hosting my workshop on the breezy waters of Lake Ontario! We'll be setting up for a two day printing class (read: dip your toes in the frigid waters of thickened dye) at the Yacht Club. Talk about location! We may need our life vests on under our aprons. 
 

Empty Seats

Thursday was the meeting for the Genesee Valley Quilt Club here in town. With caution many came, but many, many did not. We're all learning how not attending looks. I've some classes and lectures that have been cancelled, and am learning to go with the flow.

Nearing the End of the Slog

I've soda soaked about 150+ yards of labeled cotton for the upcoming year's classes. My April 2-3 printing class with the Genesee Valley Quilt Club (a few seats are available) is the only class which will have the fabric supplied by moi. I'm ready to end this task.

Mind Your Back

I held my corner of the room just fine. The Genesee Valley Quilt Club held its demo derby today and I led four (almost) identical demos called "Mind Your Back" which discussed backing fabrics, facing, binding, sleeves, and how to hand on the wall. They loved it, I love them.

Wild Quilts, or Quilts Gone Wild

Eleanor Levie was in town for her lecture "Quilts Gone Wild" at the Genesee Valley Quilt Club. She started with this top that was scrappy, improvisational, and vintage. One of her favorites, and mine too. The quilt at right is the GVQC raffle quilt. Talk about new/old.

Thanks for Picking Me

My home base quilt group the Genesee Valley Quilt Club awarded me the ribbon (and a prize) for Best Surface Design for my work Time of Day: Coffee Break. What Shows and Tells

Jenna was at our club's meeting yesterday, and this Shibori Half Square Triangle quilt came out for show and tell. We made this in a class at least 4 years ago, and I'm always glad to see a project finished, especially one that I had a hand in! Nice going, Jenna.

Unveiled

Raffle quilts are a set unto themselves. The 2017 GVQC quilt had many hands in the making, and on person that was guiding it throughout -- and watching that all was perfect. That guidance came from Cheryl Scholand, who is standing next to it during the GVQC October meeting.

Graphic Textiles

My printed fabrics are hanging out at the quilt show this weekend. Funny that Pro Chemical & Dye's sign is just in the background. I get all my dyes and supplies from Pro Chem, and it was great to "hang out" with Nancy and Ann this weekend.

Falling Blossoms

Sakura Falling by Julie Wasson took my interest at today's GVQC quilt show. I love the improvisationally made background for the blocks. The bits of color mimic the falling cherry blossoms in Japan.

At the Show at RIT

I'm smack dab in the middle of this shot, and enjoying the delights that come with every quilt show. New techniques, new color combinations, new processes. And my neighbor, Pro Chemical and Dye, just dropped off my supplies for this summer's printing. Can't wait.

Skinny Line Leaf Practice

It has been a few months since I made a "Skinny Line Leaf" so for this Sunday's class (and my Vermont Quilt Festival class) I made up another one. No more room, I hear, in this upcoming class, so come on down to Vermont!

In the Wash

Oh, many think my life is glamourous, but I present evidence that it is not. This evening I  rinsed and pre-washed that silk-screened yards that I printed yesterday. Just getting ready for selling fabrics next weekend at the GVQC quilt show. I'll be glamourous another day.

Kindle Kover

Belated  birthday gift to the new kindle owner (not me) just in time for summer reading. Nice to use some of that shibori hand-dyed fabric. And that skinny line. Just warming up for next Sunday's class at the Genesee Valley's Quilt Show.

Washed and Ironed, Now Up for Grabs

Such fun to get back to printing -- these are the results from the last few days of printing and hand dyeing. I'm getting ready for the Genesee Valley Quilt Show here in Rochester June 5-7 where I will be selling these in my booth. Unless I can't bear to part with them!

Printing, Drawing, Painting

...all rolled into one! I've got some soda ash soaked aprons ready to take on my dye paints, some direct drawing, and (after this dries) some silkscreening. Thought these would be fun to bring to my booth at the Genesee Valley Quilt Show this June 5-7.
