You Art What You Wear

Karen is responsible for getting me to visit British Columbia and has been my host for the week. That she can also pound out a great abstract piece in half a day (or get this far, at least) is terrific. I loved the two day Improv Sketches & Take Two. Fun group.

Typical Work Day

Wouldn't it be great if each work day included piecing art works? Alison adds to her piece in my Improv Sketches class. The group is meeting in a great facility that used to be a maintenance garage for the town. Perfect space for us to work with good light. It was a pleasure to "work" today.

Traveling Through

A morning walk to the river stream this morning before I departed for Oliver, British Columbia and a two day workshop. There are not the words, nor a better image I can give to describe this beautiful land. So appreciate the kindness that has brought me here, and the chance to see its gifts.

Goin Along for the Ride

Sometimes you have to just take that break, get some sun, and try something new. Today it was the recumbent bike with my friend down an old railroad bed made into a trail. The downhill was excellent.

Smell the Roses

Or the mock orange, if that is the case. These are nestled in the mining town of Hedley, British Columbia. If you stand next to them and turn 360 degrees, you'd see mountains at each turn. Aromatically divine.

Arbutus Tree

On an island, the draw is the shore where the land meets the water. But looking inward are trees I've not lived with, new and exciting. This arbutus changes its coat through the year, and now peals back to expose a smooth skin. Wish old age could be so kind.

Ferry Ride

There's a sense of the ordinary on a ferry ride. No fancy terminals, no stewards in uniforms, no polished waiting room. The cars line up with trucks, you leave your bag down below (next to the newspaper machine) and climb up stairs to look over oceans that are extra ordinary.

Walk With the Giants

Final day on Vancouver Island where the trees are 700 years old. And that is the new growth. Loved the sunshine, smattering of gold trees, and giants of cedar and pine. Spectacular.

Show and Tell in Pacific Daylight Savings Time

I know, you are all thinking it's waaaay before midnight, but this post is coming in yesterday, so to speak. So, I'm counting it as Monday night. Here in B.C. still and enjoying the election celebration. And a lovely show and tell at today's Quilt House Quilters in Parksville.

Cut, Sew, Shift

Tackling a new way of handling fabric does not always come easily. But then, sometimes it does. We (in Parksville, British Columbia) took on improvisational piecing, inserting skinny lines, and learning basic freezer paper templates all in one day. You bet we were tired. Tired, but happy.

Farewell Saturna, Hello Victoria

With the island in the distance, I make my way to Victoria and a welcoming and warm group of women for two more days of fun. Love this Pacific Northwest Coast.

You Need Another Cup

Stopped at this great renovated bus / cafe for lunch on Saturna Island. We ate atop the double deck. And I shoulda got that second cuppa joe.

Time for Reflection

Here I am in my "deck" chair at the tip of Saturna Island in British Columbia. (Adaline, I will get out and get going, but for now I am just taking a breath before my next task.)
