Admiration Society

Thee center quilt is by Astrid Hilger Bennett. I've admired her work for a long time. She is an avid drafter, drawing from nature constantly. These drawings translate into wonderful natural forms which she paints, prints, and draws. This is also from the Quilts=Art=Quilts show,.
 

Easy to Mix

Dynaflo is easy to mix, use, and seems to stay that intensity. A bit. Wet = darker by a shade. But this method is giving me a way to paint these panels easily.

Start of Panel Project

My daughter has requested linen panels for acoustic help in her living room. And a mom has to deliver. So, this linen has been painted and will get more layers. Happy to have 90 degrees to speed the drying. Stay tuned for more.

It Doesn't Take Long

It seems a mess, but it's not. I've finally gotten to print, and this is the day's last pull of dye. I'll leave it right here till tomorrow morning, then I think I'll drop another print on this. Or not. It's a good inky blue.

Off the List

I keep lists. Lists of lists. One item that had been there for a while was to recover my chairs with my own "paintdyed" canvas. So, check that off the list. Move to the next item.

Merry-Mack Leaf

Ronni used a yard of my "painted" fabric to craft her New Big Leaf today at the class with the Merrimack Valley Quilt Guild. I helped her cut it out, only because I was eager to see how it would lay out. I may have to make one for myself!

One Yard Wonder

Liz took advantage of my challenge to make her New Big Leaf block from one yard of my hand dyed fabric. The block is not sewn, but you can see how spectacular it will be. Such a fun, hard working group yesterday at the Towpath Quilt Guild. Thank you for having me!

Product Placement

Look beyond the pillows in my booth to see the one far away. No, that pillow in the background did not escape to visit another artist's booth. I added that pillow to spice up a friend's booth. And it did get noticed. Spread the love, perhaps.

Stacked Up

Hand dyed, printed, and painted linen makes wonderful pillows. These are ready to be packed up for this weekend's show as well. Tomorrow I print more, and a bit of silk for scarves. With, incidentally, are all the techniques I will teach this May at Pro Chemical for my "Glorious Prints" class.

Before and After

Bonus time -- two images! I am always struck with how different the fabric looks after the wash. The original (above) and the final (below). Knowledge is power.

Mixing In

I've got a thick white plastic table cover that has the body to take mixing thickened dyes directly. I can blend using the scraper like a palette knife, then on to scraping the fabric. Works!

Under the Needle

The fourth seam on this pillow will be done on the machine. Yes, yes, I'm slowing down for this, and yes, I'm taking the pins out as I go. Well, almost always. This is the linen I painted last week.

On the Wall

Thank goodness I didn't sell these couple of prints. They'll make the start of the next piece, although right now they aren't saying much.
