Fiber Fair in San Francisco

I don't have the proper name for this event, forgive me on that. It was vendor after vendor of rich textiles, crafted beauties, vintage clothes, millinery, jewelry, and ethnic textile. The museum quality quilts offered at Julie Silber's table had this as the backdrop. A show stopper for my Saturday starter.
 

One Collector's Collection

Staying with a friend in Philadelphia I was treated to a glimpse of her quilt collection. Most were made by her relatives, all were in perfect condition, and as a group were charming. I love collections, and seeing other's choices shows me a side of them I find interesting and broadening.
 

Applique Stunner

I know it's unusual to post TWO photos, but this applique quilt top from Julie Silber's collection is so amazing and fascinating that I had to. It was part of the webinar that Joe Cunningham had (with me as guest) where he and Julie talk about the work (juliesilberantiquequiltstore.com). Fun to see in person!
 

Busman't Holiday

A trip to a nearby town and lovely antique store on the weekend is where I found this early quilt. It's in good shape, is hand quilted, and has a simple patchwork pattern. but Most of all, I love the use of red and white throughout. A keeper to use.
 

Another Joe Day

I love museums, but Joe loves them more. And sure enough, as a busman's holiday treat, Sunday we found a traditional quilt amongst the contemporary painting collection at the Memorial Art Gallery. They seem to want to say something, so this was their chance. Maybe a newer one next time. To match the time frame.
 

Back to the Past

Ten days ago I posted a crumpled "first quilt". It wasn't one I made, or had in my family, but the first I purchased on my route from Minnesota to Rochester, NY in 1981. The pattern is "Ocean Waves", probably made after 1930. I'll be back in Minneapolis April 17 - 21; lecture April 20. That First Quilt

I'm still posting to Instagram (pat_pauly) on the igquiltfest2023 rally, and day 17's prompt is "Quilts of Significance". So, this quilt, purchased in the middle of Michigan on my journey from Minneapolis to Rochester in 1981 means a lot to me. It was the first quilt I owned. 
 

Old Returns for this Season

I believe I've owned this more than 45 years. Each holiday season it returns somehow. And it reminds me that long before I made my first quilt (1981) I was drawn to the craft.
 

Weekend Treasure

I can't buy every lovely antique quilt I see, but I can admire them for their design and graphic quality. Plus, I can capture them in a photograph, as much as I can, to spark that image I'd like to remember. This is a late 1800s, early 1900s log cabin "Straight Furrow" type in silks and velvets.

Old Top Seeks New Home

This old top, which is in excellent shape, is up for sale (for $50) at the Genesee Valley Quilt Club's sale table (thanks, Bev!) Thursday morning at the meeting. I have a few more, and some antique blocks that would love a new home. But this is lovely.
