Charming Quilt Show

Today I had a chance to see the exhibit that will be on view this summer at The Cleveland House Museum in Naples, New York. It was a fact finding mission for my talk this Saturday at 1 pm. Along with facts, I found charm. The detail is from a fifth grade class bicentennial project, now 50 years old.

 

Nearly Home

This exhuberant piece traveled about with the SAQA NY/NY exhibition "By Contrast" and I had a good time as part of the explaining crew when it was nearby. The SAQA group will organize another; they are good at finding wonderful venues. I'll be happy to have it home, and maybe find a matching plaid shirt.
 

Out and About

Colleges, like our Rochester's Nazareth College, usually have a slick and beautiful art gallery on campus that highlights regional and national work. I stopped in to this well attended opening showing a painter Bradley Butler and sculptor Mitch Messina. If your area supports these art spaces, you should as well. 
 

One Last Week

My exhibition of 12 works at the New England Quilt Museum in Lowell, Massachusetts enters its last week this week on September 20th, and then I'll welcome them home. It is an honor to be seen is such a lovely venue, and with such care that the staff has given to the installation. 
 

The Fabric Workshop and Museum

The recently expired exhibition "Soft Cover" at The Fabric Workshop and Museum had a bed dressed in linen sheets on which were printed images of nuclear bombs and script for how to end life on earth. It was the most striking object in the exhibition, and most thought provoking. Especially for these times.
 

Details

Entries to exhibitions often ask for details, particularly if it is fiber work. I contend that the image of that detail should be compositionally interesting, and show some facet of the work in the medium as well as the finishing. Above is all right, but doesn't show the color work of the piece. Below better.

 

Bit of Travel

I can't leave California spirit yet, though I'm home. An entire day was looking at art, and mainly female artists. The Mary Cassatt exhibition was at the Legion of Honor, a grand place in itself. I tried to capture the Golden Gate Bridge in my meager shot, and it'll hold the memory of that landscape.

 

Just Hanging Around

I made a trip over to the Little Theater Cafe where my work is hung with my friend Judy Gohringer's works. It'll be down Tuesday. It's wonderful to see work in different venues -- some are slick, some are dim, some a backdrop for life. I'll  pack three to travel to Art Quilt Tahoe, the rest will wait their turn.

 

Opening Night

With two pieces in this show "Trust the Land: Four Views" I am happy to share the walls with three other talented artists. You've seen the full works; I wanted you to see how the space looked with a crowd enthusiastically taking it all in. At The Dove Project in Geneva, New York till September 1.
 

World of Threads

I went across the border today to see the exhibit "World of Threads" in Oakville, Ontario, Canada. I can't begin to say all of what is on view -- it's the big, the small, the colorful and muted -- and all great ideas to spark creative new work. Check it out, by all means. This installation by Judith Martin is a blast.
