Short Visit

A local collector was interested in this "Lotus Pods" work. When it was seen in their space, it proved too large (about 6' square). Which meant that it could return to me for 'open storage' with a member of the staff. I took my photo and enlarged it to make this with a freezer paper pattern. 
 

$100 Freezer Paper

I was prepared to grab-and-go at my grocery store, but there was no freezer paper. Second grocery had none as well. A sinking feeling of THE UNIVERSE IS TAKING AWAY MY FREEZER PAPER went thorough my head. Target had some, but then I have to get a few more things. Thus, $100 freezer paper.
 

Not Normally Done

Someone who'd bought my fabric asked for two more yards of similar kind. This is my attempt to match the sample (shown horizontally). It wasn't easy, and I won't readily do it again, but I did learn a lot. So, win--win.

Freezer Paper Again

My shopping list often includes freezer paper, and now I've another reason to buy it. I've ironed it to the back of my soda soaked silk. What a difference in printing! I'm able to move the work around on my table, and transferring to piece to the drying rack is a breeze. Who new!

Back Story

I could have pieced that circle (it is drawn out clearly enough), but instead I used fabric with a circle. Here is a detail of the back freezer paper template. At least I could locate the circle exactly with my pattern.

Long-ish Seam

A bit of a zig-zag seam had me pulling out the freezer paper to make a template to get the shapes just right. Since I had the pieces decided, it was all right to use the template on the front, rather than ironing it to the back, like usual.

Hash Marks

If you have worked with me when I show how to make freezer paper templates, you know how often I neglect to add those hash marks, or tick marks, between the pattern pieces BEFORE I cut them apart. Yup, did it again. Must have been a long day.

Whopper Sized Pattern

Scaling up to the finished size of 11 feet high, this is the full size drawing for the next piece (still without a name) and tomorrow I will make a full scale freezer paper template. You know how I love to use freezer paper.

Freezer in mid-September

Fitting the wrong side of the constructed fabric to a pattern piece is the start of my large work. Anyone who has had a workshop with me knows how I love to use freezer paper templates for construction. It works great when I have just so much of that special fabric.

Cat and Mouse

Some while ago (9/2/2011) I posted a photo given to me by my daughter. I loved the shapes there, and used it in my finished piece "Cat and Mouse" . I used my own technique for cutting up the pretties, a workshop I teach where I draft the image and then use freezer paper templates. The hard part is cutting up that one-of-a-kind fabric. But with this result, easy to do.
