Applique Stunner

I know it's unusual to post TWO photos, but this applique quilt top from Julie Silber's collection is so amazing and fascinating that I had to. It was part of the webinar that Joe Cunningham had (with me as guest) where he and Julie talk about the work (juliesilberantiquequiltstore.com). Fun to see in person!
 

Binding the Joe Method

Joe Cunningham has a method for facings. He's put forth dozens of 'The Quilt Report' on YouTube about his work and methods. Counting Quilting

While I was in Cape Cod a couple of weeks ago, I got to revisit Joe Cunningham's exhibit. To see work up close and in person is always a treat. The scale, the construction, and the 'true' color (always dependent on the light) is valuable info. Since my work today was mundane, here's a detail of "4,000 Beagles" by Joe.
 

Another Joe Day

I love museums, but Joe loves them more. And sure enough, as a busman's holiday treat, Sunday we found a traditional quilt amongst the contemporary painting collection at the Memorial Art Gallery. They seem to want to say something, so this was their chance. Maybe a newer one next time. To match the time frame.
 

Music Saturday

I was Joe Cunningham's driver for the weekend as he finished at QBL and readied to get to the Birmingham, England Festival of Quilts show. So, before we got to the opening that night, I dragged Joe (on the right) to a singalong gathering Saturday morning. He was modest, but not in his playing ability. 
 

Before and After

I can't remember if I'd added the beginning and ending of the quilt Joe Cunningham made for the Cahoon Museum. While Joe and Seda Tarek worked on the cherry picker, I layed down the lower 12 feet of spinnaker nylon. Staples did the job. It'll be up till mid-September.
 

The Stuff Inside

All the outside wrapped, I checked out the inside of the Cahoon Museum and Joe Cunningham's solo exhibit. It's a powerhouse of piecing, and a heavy dose of current events. If you find yourself on Cape Cod this summer, stop and see it up close. And there is Julie Silber's exhibit of 200 years of quilts there too.
 

Left Out of the Talk

The start of the printed "collection" is this dress I made for my daughter's wedding, and in today's talk (#47 of Joe Cunningham's series) is the one I meant to show.  I could choose between a song or a toast. I love a good  challenge. The song? "It Had to Be You."

 

Getting the Stage Set

Saturday morning I'll be a guest on Joe Cunningham's Quilt Freedom Workshop. Here's the studio wall piled with about 7 quilts to start. A reader pointed me to this video from The Last Homely House's You Tube video on the U.K.'s quilt show -- part two. Joe gives a tour of his works and the triptych where he used my printed fabric. He is most generous to praise me, he's near the end, so kind. It's worth seeing how the fabric is used.

Homework

On my "to-do" list is to make a short video for the Quilters for Ukraine event this Saturday. I have a way to go, but for now, I've got the table ready. The videos I shot are trashed, tomorrow is another day. My topic -- printing the table. Eventbrite and Joe Cunningham is how to find this Saturday's fundraiser.
 

Ukraine Fund Raiser by Quilters

I'll repeat my post here about a fund raiser for United Help Ukraine. Joe Cunningham has organized a passel of quilters to do a 15 minute demonstration of how they make their fiber work. Ever the Print Element

Joe Cunningham was kind to take me to a hill above San Francisco to take in the panorama. One step left and this grated fence appeared. All I could think of was how I would use it for printing. So, the mind continues to workout methods and techniques, even when shown the wonder of this landscape.
 

With Friends

Three of my large works are right, and Joe Cunningham's works are layered on his unique quilt rack. It is wonderful to see his strong and singular works, and kind for him to share the gallery space with my work. A working artist can't ask for more. We spent today catching up on computer tasks. Joe at his spot, me behind the gallery desk. My view was of my work. So odd, but so nice for me to be able to show my work. Thank you to Joe and Carol, his wife, for hosting me in San Francisco, and for giving me the opportunity. 

One Two Many

Ready for the Sunday crowd, my work is hanging in Joe Cunningham gallery. This will be up for a month in San Francisco in his studio gallery at 1803 Market Street. I got to meet Joe's supportive friends and see many of my friends who made the trip for the opening. Thanks to all who were there!
