Making Thickened Part of Thickened Dye

I'm getting ready to make the "thick" part of thickened dye that I use to print. Here's a go at how I mix it and get ready. I'm adding about 4 cups of Pro Print Paste from Pro Chemical and Dye to one gallon of warm water. And yes, I need a haircut.

Measure for Measure

To get ready for "Glorious Prints", a class in May at Pro Chemical and Dye, I'm measuring out yards (plus a bit extra) to take. I've mentioned this before, but since my counter is 36" high, I let the fabric hit the floor, nick it with a scissors, and tear off the piece.

Glorious Prints May 7-12 at Pro Chem

Here's the next set I'm using -- two one yard pieces I've made by screening and direct painting, with a bit of drawing. I'll be teaching this at Pro Chemical and Dye this May, and class is filling up! There are a few spots left in the May 7-12 class in Fall River. It's is a blast, if I have to say. Top Ready for Quilting

One of last night's line-up (on the right, from yesterday) is now in the final form. It is all my own surface designed fabric (secrets revealed in my Pro Chem Class next month) with a few skinny lines for good measure. Now to quilt.

Painted Fabric Leaf

My "painted" fabric is fun, but needs a project. Since I'll be teaching The New Big Leaf class on Wednesday, I used it here. Cut from mainly one yard, I like it! Happy Gift

Word came to day that my May 8-12 class "Glorious Prints" at Pro Chemical and Dye has just three more slots open (class fills at 14). I'm so thrilled! I've put a whole cloth piece on the longarm, one I made with printing thickened dyes, an example of what I'll be teaching this May.

Class in August in Massachusetts

In the Thick of the Dye

First Fridays in town mean lots of neat art. For me, the call of the wet studio was greater, so I spent the evening getting to screen, drip, and slather thickened dye on my soda-soaked fabric. I'm warming up for my two classes, one in Montreal this May, and one in Fall River this August.

Screening Aprons

I've used the soy wax on the silk screen as the resist for the ink. And using Profab textile paint (which means you have to be quick) I've used this method to screen my aprons. I like the road I'm on.

Graphic Textiles

My printed fabrics are hanging out at the quilt show this weekend. Funny that Pro Chemical & Dye's sign is just in the background. I get all my dyes and supplies from Pro Chem, and it was great to "hang out" with Nancy and Ann this weekend.

At the Show at RIT

I'm smack dab in the middle of this shot, and enjoying the delights that come with every quilt show. New techniques, new color combinations, new processes. And my neighbor, Pro Chemical and Dye, just dropped off my supplies for this summer's printing. Can't wait.
