Which to Choose

Tuesday night at Quilting by the Lake is vendor night and it was difficult to choose, so sometimes you have to buy the bunch. Aside from the eveing's gathering, I also talked to Crafty Monkies via Zoom, taught a day at the independent studio set up, and came home to a gutted kitchen (work started!).
 

Fabric for Quilting by the Lake

I've one more week before leading a surface design independent study at Quilting by the Lake, the retreat sponsored by The Schweinfurth Art Center in Geneva, New York. It's started its first week, but Tuesday night I'm a 'vendor' with a pile of printed fabrics. So, amid the chaos of the studio, I'm ironing. Come see!
 

Project Progress

I've been working on a project with Craft Monkies which included making three blocks for a group quilt. All or these fabrics were printed for the project, and I filmed making them. Now it's time too put the into blocks. The frames indicate the sized of the blocks -- a tool I find extremely helpful
 

Repopulate

New prints were added to the design studio. One was a fragment with renewed life from dropped color, and it wants to chat with another piece that was waiting for that friend. I've made small progress on the winter project, but mainly set up the studio for tomorrow's virtual workshop "New Big Leaf".
 

Special Prints

A fellow quilt artist asked for particular fabrics, mainly light toned, but with interesting texture or line. I've made half dozen, some might work, some not. It's so hard to know what is wanted, and what is in mind. I hope one or two will work. This is scraped, screened, rubbed. 
 

Choosing Companions

I'd a lovely chat with someone who wanted to purchase fabric on my website. A first for me! Made me think on how I pick companions. My rule of thumb is that they either slide together and are 'seamless' or distinct from each other so that no matter how I combine the cuts, the piecing shows. So, show or no.
 

Make It & Break It

After printing for four days, the group had two days of sewing and design. Terry took fabric she'd just printed (and washed) and took on the project of Make It & Break It, where she put fabrics together to take apart and reset in a grid structure. I've made a few of these, and they are always a good puzzle.
 

Snow Day

We called it a snow day, so cancelled an appointment, had three extra hours to set up tomorrow's virtual class Within the Frame, and polish my evening's lecture, and photo a handful of printed yards for my website store (no, there not there yet, but soooon), and catch up on business, and watch the snow.

 

Newest Yards, And It's About Time

Shy of a dozen, I've added more yards to my website store. It's getting harder to let these go, and lordy knows I've way more than I can use in my life time. But still, I pick out those that will hang around the studio and maybe make the 'cut'. Then I add a stack for selling. But I really want to keep those, too.
 

Stacking Them Up

I've been ironing, a chore I love, and making a stack of my printed fabric for sale at QSDS. My hope is that some will grab them for the sewing and design class on the second week there (as well as in August on Cape Cod) to use in the class. I frequently have some who want to do that, and I'm happy to help.

At the Shop

I finally got 'round to adding more printed yards to my web site store. Thank you to all who heard my talk on Joe Cunningham's lecture series Saturday. I'm guessing that's why there was a flutter of yards leaving the store and heading off to new places to be used wonderfully. Now there's more; above is a selection. 
 

Prints in the Store

Restocked and looking a bit chipper, my website store now has a dozen more scarves, and a dozen new yards of printed cotton. Yes, once the deck is cleared from the fashion frenzy, items can now jump over to the website store. You know -- www.patpauly.com/shop
 

You Know That List

I keep lists. Many. Items sometimes get scratched off, many just jump on to the next list. Photographing the next batch of prints for the web site store finally got finished. Check. Now to get the on the site named an numbered. 

Taking Care of Fabrics

I finally got around to loading more printed yards of my fabric yesterday to my website shop. This is what I start my photo shoot with -- so that I can track the pieces. I think this means I've put up 451 pieces on the site. I think. Who can keep a list? Ha!
 

In the Queue

I've a dozen or so yards of printed fabrics that need to be photographed, catalogued, and listed on the website store. Where is the time? If only we didn't need sleep, or food, or merriment. (It's the merriment that is slowing me down here!) Oh, well. Tomorrow!
 

First Steps

I took two yard pieces of printed fabric, cut them in half, then combined one set of the halves into sets. You saw that yesterday. Now I'll take and combine them with the other half, above. Part of the fun of "Make It and Break It".
 

Change Is Good

I've got all the parts set in columns, hence the name of the class. I've just a little shifting left and then I'll attach them all. The class this week had many who came with their own hand printed fabric,  very well made graphics, each one refreshingly different from each other. A treat to see them used!

Squirrels

When I was concentrating on one, another unfinished work took over. This is more challenging, and lively, that's certain. We'll see how it all goes. Or not. 
 

Linen Lined Up

After adding a dozen yards of prints, I'm now getting to posting new linen for sale on my website store. I make these for those who love Ariane Zurcher's improv stitching class (and handy YouTube videos -- "On the Other Hand") who use my printed linen as the base for their works. These are some.
 

Just Hung Up

Another whole cloth hung up and ready to join the growing group of printed pieces. It's 42 x 42. Still without a name, but that will appear at some point. On to the next.
