Hot Talk in Naples

What a lovely group who came to hear my impromptu talk about the quilts on view at the Cleveland House today. We talked about everything, and best part was that a special guest could make out the sewn script on the 5th grade bicentenial quilt. Really fun, even on this hot day. Repeat talk August 29 at 1pm!
 

Charming Quilt Show

Today I had a chance to see the exhibit that will be on view this summer at The Cleveland House Museum in Naples, New York. It was a fact finding mission for my talk this Saturday at 1 pm. Along with facts, I found charm. The detail is from a fifth grade class bicentennial project, now 50 years old.

 

Honoring a Painter

Last night the Naples Historical Society,  located south of Rochester, honored their citizen, Ira Randall (1903-1986). He left hundreds of landscapes painted during his lifetime, with the practice of completing one work each day. The lively lecture was in the grange hall built in 1923, a work in itself.
 

Two Hundred Years in Great Shape

Thursday I visited a historic landmark in Naples, New York that has original stenciling from the 1800s. I admired these shapes from work I did 30 years ago, and finally got to see them. Still thrilled to see those flat, cut out shapes. And notice the leaves? Love them leaves.

The Great and Famous Two

Will Rogers visited Naples, New York and performed at the fair. This photo that I printed from the glass plate negative, taken and signed "Widmer". What fun to have a darkroom back in the late 1970s. Negative from a private collection.
