Gathering of Printers

It's hard to overstate the joy of seeing a group of people engaging in so much fun as they turn out piece after piece of printed fabric. Our walkaround of the last three days (only three!) works was eye-opening. Thank you all for sharing your talent with others, and for keeping the pace!

Morning Gathering

The Art Quilt Tahoe class gathers each morning to see results of the previous day. Always very cool to hear other's take on the print. These keep getting more and more complex and wonderful. A great class and wonderful layout with room to print.

Moonlight Not Necessary

The almost full moon shone on the dock below this building, and if did add to this, you couldn't tell. The top floor is where my Art Quilt Tahoe class is taking place, with the lake below. Such a beautiful place, and a setting like no others. We'll be back to printing tomorrow, for now, soak up the moonlight.

Out of the Wash

Two days ago I posted a photo detailing the color as wet thickened dye. I knew that the washed color would be lighter  it always is) and also factored in the age of the mixed dye (about two months). No big surprise to see how pastel it became. I like it, can use it, but it'll be for sale first at Art Quilt Tahoe.

Tools to Travel

I've weighed the pros and cons of checking baggage with the alternative of FedExing tools I need for working with dyes at Art Quilt Tahoe. A student needs way less, but these will get me through demonstrations, dye mixing, cleanup, and the odd swap of bad scrapers and forgotten tape.

Printing Experiment

A couple of experiments from the print table. Not sure what they will be in the end, but they intrique me. If I like them, I'll add the technique to my in person Art Quilt Tahoe class in November. I think there are two spaces left, keeping in mind that AQT allows me to cap the class at 15. (not 20!).

Give Me More

My screens and prints from teaching at Art Quilt Midwest returned today thanks to FedEx. Which gave me incentive to add new prints (to my website store) I'd taken to Missouri as examples of techniques we'd use in class. My next in-person class is at Art Quilt Tahoe in early November. There's two spots left!

AQT and a Visit from Velda

Velda Newman was part of the closing ceremonies for Art Quilt Tahoe Thursday night. She brought her large works dedicated to her mother, an iris lover. She allowed so little time to see this, I could only snag a quick photo. Another is below. These are spectacular -- big, bold, beautiful. Velda is a treasure.

End of the Week

Here's my walk back from the workshop to dinner. I've had a terrific group of people to work with this week, and we had such good laughs. It was a great diversion from routine, and the land and water a good source of reflection. I'll be back in 2025 is all is well, and hope it is as nice as this week has been.

Mid Week at the Lake

Wednesday of a print class is when we get in 'the groove'. At this point in the workshop, motifs are flying,  getting recut, redrawn, and used in every direction. Along with work time, we have great food, a neat and tidy room to rest, and many mini lectures from great fiber artists. Art Quilt Tahoe, I'll see you in 2025.

A Splendid View

Anchored at Art Quilt Tahoe, I'm in a week of constant awe of the view. As we print in one of the most spectacular buildings at this conference center, I have to remind myself to stop, look at this impressive view, and be thankful I can do what I do.

Silk to Make You Feel Dreamy

I've made a handful of printed silk scarves to take to Art Quilt Tahoe. Last time it snowed, so I'll be prepared. My latest twist is that these are square, and the one I'm keeping -- and love -- is so much fun to wear. If only I could keep them all. When I return, I'll make some for the website store. Promise.

My Mind is Elsewhere

A devoted follower noted (and notified me) that I had missed my yesterday post. I was finishing a lecture due tonight and hit the off key as soon as I could, forgetting to post. Here is what is clogging y brain -- getting ready to cross the country to teach in Tahoe. This is my list of what is waiting from last year.

This Year's Live Printing Classes

There are two places to print with me in the lower 48 states this year, one is east, one west. I love both the Hudson River (peaceful, great food, work at your leisure night and day) and Lake Tahoe (lots of friends around, fabulous space, other classes for inspiration) for printing. You might too!

On My Way Home

Last night's light to send me home. Today was an early rise for my ride to Reno Airport, then Denver, then Chicago, and then to Rochester. Bags all there, Uber just fine, home again. New list started!

My Wonderful Class

A mighty troop of printers they are! A week with Art Quilt Tahoe proved a perfect way to share a surface design process that included more ways to print than we had time for. They were great to be among, and no doubt that they will use what they've made this week for some splendid works.

Decisions, Decisions

Knowing how to print comes quickly, knowing what to print not as fast. The time to decide, ponder, wonder, and replace takes time and patience. Still, worth the effort to print the intriguing composition. Still at Art Quilt Tahoe.

Meeting of the Minds

We started our day with a look at what we did yesterday, and lots of ideas for how to carry on. This group is sharp, kind, and terribly fun. Only missing thing is tea and scones delivered at 3.

Lake Tahoe

It's difficult to say how beautiful this piece of the country is. Art Quilt Tahoe is directly on the lake, and to get from class to lunch you walk just a few feet from the water's shore. We also were treated to an exuberant sky, quite dramatic. Perhaps a foreshadowing of our week ahead.

Beer (Cup) Party

Before I leave the stack of photos from Art Quilt Tahoe, I should show you all this. It is a view of the "tower" that we used to lay our wet prints flat. Yes, that's a double beer cup for spacers between the foam insulation boards. It's a great system in a pinch. But we still were waiting for the beer.
