Harry Bertoia Night

As a student in design and a woodworking course, we studied chairs. Harry Bertoia made an iconic and beautiful one around 1952, and it remains forever part of our vocabulary. Tonight RIT showcased his work with a film and the celebration of 7 sculptures 'Dandelions' seen at the 1964 World's Fair. Gallery of Friends

I caught the exhibit at Rochester Institute of Technology today where all the exhibitors were connected to the Anderson Arts Building where I have my studio 301. The scope and depth of the works is wonderful. This rug hooker, Diane Philips, has always been a favorite of mine Here is a close up.

 

Checking on Friends

While exchanging works and leaving more pillows at Shop One on the RIT campus, I visited pillows I left a few months back. I'd forgotten how much I loved them. And I don't know if I could reproduce this print again. Guess that's why they're one of a kind.
 

Library Words

While getting information for my July class at RIT I came across this hand-drawn lettering quote from Mary Oliver. Yes, there seems to be calligraphic students, and yes, they are encouraged to get credit for scripting the chalkboard wall in Wallace Library. Smart students, smart faculty.

Graphic Design in Abstract Quilts Research

I met today with archivists at RIT to see the collection that I'll use to July 13-17, 2020 in Graphic Design in Abstract Quilts here in Rochester. Book above is "ABCS" by Brenda McManus and Ned Drew. What wonderful resources -- prints, posters, books. Typography galore. (See my web site and calendar for info.)

Foolin' Around With Red

William Keyser's piece morphed with his wall hung work on the University Gallery's wall at RIT. I took a busman's holiday to hear Evan Snyderman's talk on artists in his New York R Gallery. But Keyser's work "Foolin'..." (there to be seen, not in a slide) kept my attention. Plus, I'm attracted to that red.

Three in the Store

I love Shop One 2 for many reasons. The campus gallery at RIT has extremely high quality work by mostly regional artists, they carry my work, and best of all they let me know when they need more. So I've added these three printed silk scarves to their shelves. Visit if you are near, it is a gem.

Low Flying Aircraft

The other day, due (I am sure) to my bifocals, I did not see the cat on the floor and whacked into her. That is exactly what I was thinking when I saw this at RIT's Global Village --  I might just trip over him.
