While I Was Dyeing

Since I spent most of yesterday cleaning gutters, and no photos of any progress, let's revisit another item I dyed. The shirt dress is a Brooks Brothers linen color that when overdyed with sun yellow yielded this marvelous acid yellow, almost a chartreuse. Perfect match for the under  quilted vest. 
 

Make/Dye While the Sun Shines

I took advantage of the heat and still air to underpaint with dye on fabric. Later, when I need the cool basement, I'll pole wrap these yards for shibori.

Perfect Dye Studio Summer Style

Back yard studio setup includes (foreground) plastic table, rollers for dye, containers; (middle ground) clothesline with pins; and (background) hammock for waiting for the fabric to dry. Also helps to have a cool drink on hand.

Pick a Color Time

My friend Carol Soderlund would cringe if she saw how I was choosing a color. I am looking for the major green area of my next work. Not at all scientific, but it may work.

Ready to Dye

My "underpainted" fabric is now rolled on a pvc pipe and scrunched down and held in place with rubber bands, waiting for the dye bath. I am making these yards for a class that will use the shibori dyed fabric. Perfect chore (in the basement) for storm avoidance.

Three from One Pot

Three yards that shared a dye pot. I stack them like a parfait, and add dye with each addition. I will sell these this April 13 & 14 at the Lake to Lake Quilt Show in Rushville, New York. Come find me!

Old Dog, New Tricks

An old piece was cut apart and dyed. You can see on the right the last remaining section. It is in the dye pot now, and tonight I will wash it and start to rework this composition. With age comes wisdom? Or just another solution to change.

Discharge Like You Mean It

Marcia Murphy tackles a large piece (why be small?) to discharge. Might be cut apart to be part of a great tote bag. Who knows? Part of day #2 fun in the studio.
