Skinny Lines

I've got another small piece on the design wall. To add a skinny line that is slightly curved I've cut some strips on an angle from a piece of fabric. After is left, before is right. That slight bias works that curved line well without bunching.

Fair Weather Discharge

A piece that was discharged (had been bleached to remove some of the dye) last summer came back around  this week for more. I've used some of the same imagery used in print, so these discharged fabrics should relate well. Can't wait to pick two and try out a design.

One Yard Wonder

Liz took advantage of my challenge to make her New Big Leaf block from one yard of my hand dyed fabric. The block is not sewn, but you can see how spectacular it will be. Such a fun, hard working group yesterday at the Towpath Quilt Guild. Thank you for having me!

Change of Color

I purchased perfectly fine fabric for a background, seen here in the middle greenish stripe. But, preferred a redder shade, so heck, I dyed it. Easy when the dye studio is just to my right.

January Cleanup

With the tree tossed, it was time to clean the pile of fabrics mounting next to my cutting table. So many forgotten pieces, each wanting to be part of a work. Good thing I've got some blank design walls to work with.

Things, Things, Things

Art at the Pink House, a gallery in Saranac Lake, New York, has a bunch of my hand dyed and painted linen pillows. Since a couple have sold (!) I'm boxing these up and mailing replacements. And you think all I do is look at art these days?

Back on the Table

I've got just enough space to run a two yard length of silk on my padded table to do some printing and direct painting on this silk. It's different than cotton, as the silk slips around and is way flimsy, but I've gotten results that I like. This will be at QBL next week when I am vending,

Filling In

I've started to sketch in the areas of the drawing with my hand dyed fabrics for value. The original photo is at the upper left on the design wall. The freezer paper pattern hangs to on left and right walls.

Leaf of Another Stripe

Making yards of hand dyed and printed fabric to sell for my classes and lectures has been a delight this winter. This monoprinted leaf came out crisp and bold. I may go back to overdye and to overpaint. It is the entire yard of cotton -- nice and big.

How to Wrap Ten Yards

It takes a bit of hand strength to wrap the pvc pipe and squish down the fabric. The color is underdyed (but not fixed). These will go in two buckets of dye and get processed. They are for a class September 8 (Elmira), as well as a quilt show in Brewerton ( Syracuse) Twilight Stitchers on September 12, where I will be vending

Finished and Off to Florida

I'm shipping on this New Big Leaf to Sarasota. This January I'll be there for a workshop with the Friendship Knot Quilters' Guild. This time I used two lovely hunks of hand-dyed fabric, with another (green) for the veins. I like the effect, not to mention the ease in letting the fabric do all the work.

Dye Times Three

Same bucket of dye for a light blue linen, a natural linen, and the usual cotton pfd. More to experiment, now that summer is here.

More is More

The rows are set, now to join those. Had to just keep going to see what would come of more skinny line leaves. Hope you like this version, cause it is off to the longarm next.

The World in a Yard

A batch of hand-dyes brought this yard. To me, it is the world seen from far away. I'll bring it with me to sell this spring in Amherst, Massachusetts. Or, maybe keep it and fold it into the next work.

On Ice

Just when I got ice to keep food cool (from lack of power this week) the power was restored. So, reduce, reuse, recycle. Ice dyeing! Results are not in, they are still in the wash.

Packing to Go

Saturday and Sunday this new batch of hand dyed fabric will be at the "Quilting Around Chautuaqua" show at Chautauqua Institution in New York. Chautauqua is tucked into the far left edge of New York, just about to Pennslyvania. There will be a crowd, tons of quilts, and these great fabrics.
