Yesterday's task was to photograph and document a work that will be submitted to a juried show. They ask for a full image, naturally, and occasionally, a detail shot. I think the detail image should show the quilting and the array of printing techniques. But more importantly, it be a strong composition on its own.
In many stints as a juror I have often noted that the detail shot seems more interesting than the full view -- because the photographer has found an area with strong composition.
ReplyDeleteIf the juror is worth their salt, they are image people, and need that composition to grab attention. Good picks mean that the overall and the detail are both strong. You're right.
