Printing on Fabric

Printing on fabric mesmerizes me. I print quickly, almost spontaneously. I know if I make a mistake, I can edit. Two spots are open in the printing class -- one in October, one in November. Each time I have a class, I learn. More, and more. It forces me to print almost without thinking; then I know I'm ok.

A Walk in the Woods

I cling to these days where it's a comfortable walk down the street to the patch of old growth we've got near. This is the time before the leaves obscure the path, and the green color is still there, barely. My studio is clear as well, and soon fabric will be strewn about, the path again hard to see.

Evening Lecture

I visited Minneapolis tonight. Just for a little while, to show them my work and talk about my studio. Outside my door was a warm, clear evening; there the sun hadn't yet set. All in this virtual life, me looking at me, looking at them, all laughing with a second time delay. What a nice evening.

Pile of Work

Works at the ready are part of a showing to a prospective owner. The work they choose will be a wedding gift, a gift to the couple. How lovely. We used a zoom conference to help with selection.

Take on a Take Two

I've added a Take Two class in design December 2-3. This is a work as I see it evolve on a student's design wall. It's a photo with many reflections, but I can see the progression and composition as it is shaped and moved along. October's class is full, December about half way.

Go Big, Go Bold

I've posted a new class for those who are more advanced printers or have taken a print class with me. Go Big, Go Bold is printing with an emphasis on the whole cloth design, that is, where the fabric is later not cut apart. This is one finished and quilted. You can see the class at www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Simple but Complex

This piece uses two pieces of printed fabric. There's a December 2-3 class in design -- Take Two -- where the goal is to design with minimal elements. The November  9-13 intermediate/advanced printing class Go Big, Go Bold stresses printing, yes, but more importantly, printing the whole cloth quilt.  Printing goes live Friday at 5. They're on the web site www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Bird's Eye of the Afermath

Since our class today was virtual, I've no record shots of the lovely solutions using the New Big Leaf block. Just a view of what I had left at the end of the day. There was a lot of fabric flying, quilts draped about, and the studio was filled with good company. A good day, and thank you my Big Leaf Piercers! You are the best.

It's All About them Leaves

Since it's the first day of fall, we in the Northeast must start to worship our leaves. So, a wall of leaves are ready to usher in The New Big Leaf class tomorrow morning. I'll be joined by people from Massachusetts to Alaska, so it should be a fun tour for the day learning about them and also freezer paper templates.

Momentary Spaciousness

I've put away fabrics from last week's class, and have a clean slate for Wednesday's class using freezer paper templates. Now to repopulate with works that I've made using that technique. And I've so many to find. If only there were elves to reorder each night.

The New Big Leaf

After I made this four square "The New Big Leaf" I realized that there was an underlying square on point. You can bet I made the next quilt like this with an exaggerated diamond in the center. The joys of hindsight. This is my Wednesday class using freezer paper templates.
