World of Threads

Bettina Matzkuhn's work "On the Nature's of things, was part of the exhibition in Oakville, Canada at the Joshua Creek Heritage Center. The work is covered in this fine line; this is just a detail. It is a show stopper, for sure.

Alice in Wonderland

Like falling down the rabbit hole (think Alice in Wonderland), today's visit to the Joshua Creek Heritage Site, in Oakville, Canada, led to a different universe. Sybil Rampen, here touring us around her fascinating collection, knows how to live. And for a brief part of today, it was joy, pleasure, and a wonderful land. Thank you, Sybil.

Mutual Admiration

My quilt club met today, and I was the "sale table". These two came to admire my work behind the scene. I am so grateful for friends who put up with my humor and antics. I had a great time goofing around.

Phone Home

 

Obsolete telephone earpieces dangle in an industrial building's stairwell, in Rochester's Village Gate. Now, just think of other discarded parts, say, those recalled hip replacements, hanging as a sculpture. Parts. Ha!

Got Out and Voted

Youngest of the clan voted for the first time. Glad, so glad, that we share the same politics, so that I could speak my mind and not fear offense. Now to wait for the morning's news. And, yes, I think of Susan B., hometown girl, and her fight on this momentous day.

Cleaning Clutter

In 1975 I took this roll of pepermunt from the desk of the King Hotel in Amsterdam. Saved it all this time (to remember to return to the King Hotel). I've returned, but forgot the hotel. A young Milliard Fillmore (our 13th pres) won't advise whether to hang on to it, or pitch it.

Open 24 Hours

A stop at Jay's diner in Brighton, NY, for breakfast (okay, I really needed the coffee) while the power was out this week. Retro 50's look, lots of stainless steel. But loved the gardens still putting out into November.

On Ice

Just when I got ice to keep food cool (from lack of power this week) the power was restored. So, reduce, reuse, recycle. Ice dyeing! Results are not in, they are still in the wash.

While the Iron is Hot

Power is back on, so that means I can iron the pile of shibori dyed fabric. Fun to see the results. And I have dozens more to do. In a couple of weeks I am headed to Poughkeepsie, and the Half-Square Triangle class, which can use this fabric for the base.

Ready for My Close-Up

George, that wayward boy, got his photo shoot Monday. We (and a few others) were at RIT to help a graphic arts student with a semester's end project. It was fun, and fairly painless.
