Print East or Print West

This spring's workshop is in the lovely Finger Lakes, near me, in Auburn New York. The Schweinfurth Art Center (Quilts=Art=Quilts sponsor) has a week of printing May 5-9. If you're west, head north to Coupeville, Washington on Whidbey Island, and print July 21-25. Join me, you won't regret a thing.

Coupeville and Canadians

Here's a typical day at the Pacific Northwest Art School in Coupeville, WA, where I'm teaching fabric printing When I asked today about my July 21-25 class, and my concern for Canada students, I got a reply from the director and board of PNWAS. They are offering a 15% discount on workshops over $330 for 2025 to show that current US policies are not a reflection of the school's policies. Bravo PNWAS!

Good Things Happen

Nicole had a grand time gettiing this designed. We're finally getting cool breezy clear skies, and our work is just sailing on that wind. These prints are large, graphic, and full of color. Friday is our last till next July when I return to Coupeville. Won't be soon enough.

Who Needs Tape?

In just over three weeks I'll be heading out with my bags packed with 6 shirts and the rest printing supplies for my workshop in Coupeville, Washington. Guess I got enough screen tape to get me through the week. Let's not forget the small things.

Delivery

I left this box a month ago on Whidby Island off the coast of Washington. It finally found it's way to home. Now I've got the works I printed ready there to decide -- finished and wash, or unfinished and print more. My favorite kind of decision.

Daylight Color

The week in Coupeville, Washington hadn't enough daylight available to see just how spectacular the landscape is. So, I've made plans to (tentatively) return in July 2023. It will be lighter longer, warmer, and still charming. And I want to print the colors that surround this beautiful part of the world.

Start With Dark in Coupeville

Mid November starts a class in Coupeville, Washington (on Whitby Island) at the Pacific Northwest Art School. It's "Start With Dark" and we explore and print with thickened dyes, starting, you guessed it, with dark. There will be no whimpey prints! We aim for great fabric with depth. Join us! https://pacificnorthwestartschool.org/product-category/fiber-arts-workshops/

Start With Dark

My next year's visit to the Pacific Northwest Art School in Coupeville, Washington will be a printing class I'm calling "Start With Dark". These monoprints are a good example where the darkest color is laid down first. I'll let this go overnight and add something tomorrow. Or not.

Remedy for Hot Bath

I'll add this tip after the fact. A couple of weeks ago in Coupeville (and the fun of Glorious Printers!) we needed hot water to wash the soy wax from our screens. This ingenious tub was created. We poured water from the tea kettle over, and presto! Clean screen. So, reuse those large foam thingies.

Time for Field Trip Again

Yesterday part of the class drove over to La Conner, Washington see the Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum. Three floors showcased works in fiber, with one dedicaed to art quilts. It was full of diverse ways to address the topic at hand -- shifting tides.

Make it Big

The rains were decisive this morning, but the afternoon brought calm and sun and clouds. Back on the line were graphic, bold prints, some waiting to be printed further. The ideas keep flowing, the dye rolling, and we're given one more glorious print day Friday.

There is a Door

I expect space, I expect great lighting, I always have a class of wonderful people. But I never expected an open wall -- a garage door that lifts to give access. It's the closest to being outside without being open too the elements. I'm in heaven.
