Far Reaching Little Town

This reproduction of a lithograph is booming Rochester, NY 1868 with a CIRCUS in town. It's the best way to explain today's events. Eight wonderful women from France to Maryland, Pennsylvania, Montana, California, Wyoming (!!!) and New Zealand met to print virtually. Can it be more fascinating?

 

Back to the Studio

You know when I've been to the studio because I change the yard of printed fabric each time I visit. Now that the weather has cooled to reasonable, and I've got some unscheduled time, I can get back to the design wall. Gosh, it feels good.
 

Kind of GoodBye Wave

You can see that the stuff on the tables is full of things to try for printing in this workshop. Sometimes it gets mixed up, and we print ourselves. Most of all, we just have a great time experimenting. My thanks and a wave ta-ta to all the fine folks who joined me for the week's workshop in Coupeville at PNWAS.
 

Printing 2023

I've three "away" printing spots, all delightful. July is in Coupeville, Washington. End of August is Madeline Island, Wisconsin; and November is Tahoe, Nevada. Spend a week printing fabric -- you'll never forget it! In person, live. 
 

Glance Back

My trip from Tahoe to Rochester took 30 hours, an overnight in the airport, and funky food. But I wanted to leave you with an image of two of the work tables, and their prints. All pieces that emerged were magical, fun, high chroma, and inventive. Thank you all who were with me there for my refreshing week!
 

Loss

I've been loosing lately. Which is not a good feeling. Somewhere is a box of printed fabric from my last class, and these are in it. There is also a fair amount of unprinted but soda soaked fabric as well. May be my carelessness, which makes the loss greater. 
 

Plenty of Room to Explore

We're just getting started here at the Elks Lodge in Clifton Park with the Quilt North Guild. Happy to include our guests from the Carolina and Ontario, Canada. Definitely working in tremendous color, trying out techniques, and just learning new ways to print fabric. What's not to love?
 

I Guess They Liked It

Quilt North took a break after my lecture to see what I had brought tonight. Guess they liked the works. And one person is showing her phone with three pieces she's had for YEARS that she can't yet cut into! We've got to change that! They are no use unless used. 
 

Printing in May in Saratoga County

It All Comes Out In the Wash

Those from the Santa Fe printing class might now be going through the wash phase. My first wash is cold water, heavy duty (long cycle) with synthrapol. Then it's the same with a warm, then hot. This first wash water is a doozy, but I know in the end all if fine. 
 

Ever the Print Element

Joe Cunningham was kind to take me to a hill above San Francisco to take in the panorama. One step left and this grated fence appeared. All I could think of was how I would use it for printing. So, the mind continues to workout methods and techniques, even when shown the wonder of this landscape.
 

In the Pink

The class work lived up to the title of the workshop "Go Big, Go Bold" with a definite emphasis on scale. Here is one ready to go, on our last day of the workshop. It was a wonderful group to work with, and the Madeline Island School of the Arts staff was a joy. So long, Santa Fe!

 

Printing is What We Love

 

One fun part of the MISA offering is to see what's up in Santa Fe. We're a block or so away from the center of the historic part of the city and it is rich in culture and arts. But, we're so hooked on printing we'd rather stay and work. Imaging that!

The Printed Line

I've a few ways to print a line. And I love having more than one way to do that. I've a screen with a cut tyvek sheet for one set, and a board with glue gun scribbles to be a rubbing for another line. Now to make an image that is solid, and one for a background print. There's no end!
 

Off It Goes

 

I put up over a dozen new yards on my web site, only hoping that I really could keep them all for myself. This one has so much going for it, I wasn't surprised to see it go, but I wish it hadn't! <sigh>

Glad to Be Inside

Just after our Glorious Prints class reunion (January's class) I ventured out to hang today's print on my tree. This is printing weather for me -- no where to go, no need to go, no want to go. Happy to mix up a gallon of print paste and dyes and get back to the print table.
 

Full Moon on the Rise

As I worked on this example for the next Take Two class, I realized I had a study of a full moon rising. I frequently have no idea in advance of what imagery will be in a piece, but when something emerges, I'll take it.  Happy Full Moon Eve!

 

Old Dog New Tricks

Thanks to Susan for reminding me about using Tyvek for a screen block. And to Gayle for suggesting the new cutting tool. Couldn't help myself tonight to try it out and see the results. Keen on this!
 

End of the Week

Whew! Show and tell from MY stash of handprinted fabric means that there's no time to fold neatly and put away. So, the end of the week's class has this bundle of works piled amongst yards of fabric. What a great group of people to share a week with, I'm full of happy. Glorious, I'd say!
 

Wish You Were Here

My Virtual Printing class limits to 8 people. I wish you all could see what fun we have (also hard work) to print, layer, change, create, rethink, listen, don't listen, mix, rub and stencil these yards of fabric. All in separate studios from Victoria to Maryland. And in mine.
