Crankies

Last night, at a folk festival here, there was the dearest workshop on crankies. I remembered that Paula Kovarik made a crankie a couple of years back, which is indicative of her bold approach to her work, always experimenting. For sport, find out about crankies, as well as Paula.

Show Off Time

I got to see the wrap-up auction for Quilting By the Lake in Geneva, New York tonight. What fun, it must have been a great week for them. This person was in Paula Kovarik's class where three dimensional quilting objects were constructed. The reindeer and mouse-in-a-pillow were impressive! 
 

Start With Dark

Somehow I think of Paula Kovarik when I see this. She draws fantastic creatures in her works. These are printed, but same planet, I think. I'll show this one to my class this week at QSDS and see what then see.
 

Walking the Line

Paula Kovarik has a way with line. It's a story, a path, a gesture. A row of her works are on view in the World of Threads exhibition which I got to see Saturday. This detail is but a glimpse of what she does with the quilted stitch.

Make Plans for Next Year

Quilts from next year's faculty at Quilting by the Lake are on view, and a few steps from where I am hanging out this week and next. So, I got to be up close and familiar with Paul Kovarik's work Pathways. Her quilted stitch is drawing, and so different from any other technique I've seen.

Out of the Gate for Quilt=Art=Quilts

I wrongly estimated the times for tonight's opening, so had a very quick glance at the works now on view at Schweinfurth Art Center for Quilts=Art=Quilts this year. The title wall is Paula Kovarik's work. I'll be back for a couple of lectures, and will make time to check out all the works.

Catalog for Quilts 20/20

Paula Kovarik designed the catalog for Quilts 20/20. It is a beautiful way to showcase the exhibit, and all of us involved with this project are so grateful to her for her work.

Ready for Opening Quilts 20/20

Tomorrow night will see the culmination of two years of work. I've curated and designed "Quilts 20/20: Traditional Works, Contemporary Art" that will run at the Susquehanna Art Museum in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania June 19 - August 31. Paula Kovarik designed each of the 20 contemporary artists their own announcement -- and here is mine.

Parallel Lives

This lovely book is now mine. Written and designed by Paula Kavorik and Jean Holmgren it is the story of the collaboration between the two on work and an exhibition. I got it from Blurb. You can get one for yourself, I would think, on PaulaKovarik.com.
