It Helps to Be Young

The kids who entered quilts in the Vermont Quilt Festival were from 4 1/2 to 18. Each got a Janome machine for entering. Don't that just beat all? And there were lots of lumpy throats in the audience.

Practice a Skinny Line

While in my class in Vermont for the Skinny Line Leaf, Karen did this little practice for setting in a skinny line. We thought it was a great start for a sketch or small composition just as it was. Oh, the possibilities are endless.

Love What is Old

The Vermont Quilt Festival always features an exhibit of old and beautiful quilts. This one caught my attention for its spare selection of color and clear graphics. Must say this was my favorite set of quilts this weekend.

New Big (and Better) Leaf

Yesterday was a full house for making the New Big Leaf. We got very far along, and this one certainly has a good amount of chroma. Great time here in Vermont.

Up in Flames

Just my Bananas Foster at the end a wonderful dinner. After a long day spent with 20 great quilters in my New Big Leaf class, is was time to relax and get a great meal.

Vermont Quilt Festival Sighting

Just about every type of quilt is here in the Vermont Quilt Festival. This detail of one of Joe Cunningham's caught my attention. I need to go back and see the group of 19th century works (curated by Debra Grana and Sharon Waddell) next.

Look Me Up at the Vermont Quilt Festival

I sent this Pink Leaf 2 to the Vermont Quilt Festival for all to see. Wave if you find it. I'm teaching four days starting tomorrow. Should be fun!

Garden Party

The first class up on Thursday at the Vermont Quilt Festival is this quilt pattern that I will teach. I've  paper  pieced it, and used a bit of every kind of fabric. But the red with white polka dot is what gives it its sparkle. There is still room in the class, which is great. More relaxing for me!

In the Garden with a New Colorway

Thought I would practice my skill at paper piecing and choose a new color set for my In the Garden quilt. I'll be teaching this on my first day at the Vermont Quilt Festival. There's still room, I believe. You can visit the VQF site and check out the show.

Packing the New Big Leaf

I've finished the New Big Leaf in a four patch set and it is already nestled in the suitcase ready for the Vermont Quilt Festival in about 10 days. Now to wrestle the other quilts to get folded and packed up.

On Again, Off Again

I've got this on and off the longarm today. Tomorrwo for bind and finish. I want to bring this to my workshops at the Vermont Quilt Festival at the end of the month. Lots to do!

Garden Party in Vermont June 25

Gardens intrigue me. I am swell in designing two dimensions, but outdoors in boundless space, a garden is a challenge. This detail of "In the Garden Party" is part of the first workshop I'll be teaching at the Vermont Quilt Festival June 25. (Registration closes June 1.) Come play in my garden.

New Big Fun

My studio assistant (my daughter) and I set up a four patch of the New Big Leaf. She decided to make one with solids, and I mixed it together. I like the print v. solid look, will have to experiment more. I'm bringing this with me to Vermont Quilt Festival where I teach at the end of June.

"New Big Leaf" Gets Cookin'

Thought I would make a new four patch of the "New Big Leaf" an update of "The Big Leaf" pattern I love to teach. You can see it in a couple of days, and see in at the Vermont quilt festival, where I will be teaching this and its cousin "The Skinny Line Leaf".

Skinny Line Leaf for Vermont

I'll be teaching at the Vermont Quilt Festival June 25-28. This is a close-up of The Skinny Line Leaf design for a workshop. It's improvisational piecing, a bit of template tricks, and color theory all in one. If you're in the area, join the class! Here is the link: Vermont Quilt Festival 2015

Hanging Out

Just last weekend was the Vermont Quilt Festival where my work was shown in the "faculty" section of the show. I guess that is good. Thanks to Susan Brubaker Knapp for taking the snap.

Volume Turned Up

Need some chroma? Got it here in the "Big Leaf" that Suzanne made in my Saturday class in Vermont Quilt Festival. Now just imagine watching 20 of these appear around the room. I was had to get my sunglasses.

Taking the Stage

The last evening of the Vermont Quilt Festival is a show and tell. Seven of my 59 students line up to show work from the classes. What a bunch of fun (and talented) gals. If you ever have a chance to be part of this, take it.

Slash and Burn Vermont Style

The scene at my "Slash and Burn" class at the Vermont Quilt Festival. Nineteen energetic and fun women were in class making quick decisions on composition. We were all worn out by 3:00. Send sweets!

Winning Friends (and Influencing People)

Chris Wickert, a fellow quilter from Rochester, New York, won Best of Show at tonight's event at the Vermont Quilt Festival. I got to hold the bag of roses, and she was thrilled to be chosen. I would say an honor well deserved. When you see her, congratulate her.
