Results Double Time
Finished the two prints that started out the same, and ended up differently. It's also the end of a week with Australian printers who will be in my workshop this April in Melbourne at the Convention. So much fun this week with this lovely group. Now for a nightcap and sleep. Thank you printers!

Final Print Day
What a great week to spend printing and exploring techniques for using thickened dye. I love a virtual winter class to break the long darkness of the winter. Thank you all my glorious printers from England to California. Keep printing, and use that glorious fabric that you've made.

Printing In or Out
You know I've set a virtual printing class for February, but you can also find me throughout the states in wonderful places like Santa Fe, Kansas City, Coupeville, or Lake Tahoe this year. And for those who crave design /sew classes I'll be in Des Moines and Mackinac Island as well. Info patpauly.com/calendar

Printing for the Influential
Today was the start of Printing Under the Influence, an advanced class for those who have had one of my previous workshops, virtual or in person. It is five days over two weeks. I've another set for January when you may be snowbound. Or just in need of a great print workshop. Details on www.patpauly.com

Virtual Classes
I finally nailed dates to slot virtual classes for this fall. Some folks can't make the dates -- how could I know they were cruising the Nile?? There is one new class, and all are variations of how I print and design improvisationally. No surprise there! They are on the website www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Start the Day
Thought you'd like to see just what I stare at for my day -- me! But not for long. There's already someone in the waiting room. So, the start of Just Silkscreens. I've got screens ready, dyes ready, table cleared and gathered some loose notes. We'll be at it again tomorrow.

Last Chance for Virtual Printing
In 10 days is the last virtual print class till the fall (or next year). Just Silkscreens is 11 to 4 Monday through Friday, May 15 - 19. Most of the design wall shows fabric who's chief technique is silkscreen. We'll print other ways too, but this is a deep screen dive. Join me www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

More Tricks with Silkscreens
Mid May (15-19) is my last virtual class till I figure out my fall/winter schedule. There's something great about getting beautiful fabric that has been printed and still retains its softness and hand. There are a few spots left, just check the site www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Line, Shape, and Setting
Next week's workshop is the foundational class for improv. It's how to sew in a thin line, how to add a shape, and how to set them in a composition. It is the skill I use for piecing, and the springboard for abstract works. Join me if you'd like. February 7 & 9. www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

End of the Day
The gloves are off, and so am I. The white lines were made with soy wax on a silkscreen. The color was scraped afterward. It'll be a great piece to use in the Line, Shape, Setting workshop in February 7 and 9. There's just a few spots left. www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses

Screen Time
Screen Time doesn't mean I'm sitting around with my phone rolling through the apps. It means "get those screens ready" for the next week for Just Silkscreens workshop. Now, I'll say it again, we do more than screens. But this is the method I love to get good, clear, bold graphics. We do more because we can.

Collecting Images for Printing

Printing Virtually, Printing in Santa Fe
February 14-18 is a screen printing virtual class where we do all things silkscreen. Yes, of course we do lots of other tricks. And March 7-11 is in person printmaking class in Santa Fe. Take you pick. Both are great, and both work big.

Strange Things Happen
In a demo on composition for Line, Shape, and Setting, I take randomly made "blocks" and try to make sense of them. Once in a while, they stick and emerge to be a "keeper" of a composition. In that case, I snap a photo quickly. Then I can take them and rearrange with abandon.

Is It Just Silkscreen?
At 43" square, this whole cloth is printed mainly in silkscreen images. But underlaying is monoprint and scraping. Texture from the quilting helps the areas surrounding the frenzy to be not so plain. It's faced, sleeved, hanging. Next!

Half Baked
You've got to start somewhere, so I choose a recent graphic. I'll let this sit for a day or so, then add more. Sometimes it's best to let it simmer on the back burner. Meanwhile, I'm to find some different motifs to add and some to conflict.

Nature Knows
To get a read on shape, line or color, just check in to the nearest zoo. The Maryland Baltimore Zoo has a renewed Giraffe enclosure that affords an inches away look at the fitted irregular pattern that is seen nowhere else. My workshop is much simpler, but you can make complex if you feel like.

Columns Sketched
I've done a few sketches for an upcoming class "Columns". I've got the two starters on top, the mix at bottom. The class is about composition using a columnar form. Another class "Make It and Break It" deals with improvisational piecing (as does Columns) but with adding a template to capture the design. Virtually Next Year
My website now has four virtual classes that are ready to go. This will be the first. It is five days spread over two weeks. We have fun, and get a day in between to think how we'll have more fun. They are all here: https://www.patpauly.com/virtualclasses
