Family Wedding

Laura loved "Family Wedding" when she first saw it in my studio. A year has passed since then and she sent me how the quilt was installed. I love it! It seems made for the space, even though it wasn't. And out the window the fall colors are fitting. Thank you, Laura.

Family Wedding

This was the piece that has gone off to a new forever home. I made Family Wedding in April 2020, just as we were starting to hunker down and stay shut down. Odd that this much exuberance came from such a dark time. Must have needed getting out.

Off to a New Home

Bundled like a newborn, my work is off to a new place here in Rochester. I knew the "Family Wedding" would be her pick, as she was wearing all the bright colors in the quilt. As it was raining, it was rolled, covered in cloth, then plastic sleeves, then tied -- never taped !! -- and off it went. Thank you very much!

That Other Sewing Stuff

The past few months I was sewing a wedding dress. I've not great photos of the day, but these will offer a glimpse of how it looked. I'll add a detail from the construction. I've not made many gowns, so this put my skills to a test. Many have heard me talk about this, and now I can share.

You Gotta Practicre

Making anything -- from a pie, to a quilt, to and English Country Dance -- calls for practice. Doing it over and over cements the muscle mass, gets the brain doing the process without thinking. That goes for anything.

Working in the Round

I'm tasked with getting floral chandeliers for this wedding, and I've got help. It is also nice to be on a vacation of sorts, with beautiful surrounds and decent weather. We'll be encircled.

Packing

In a week, I've got a wedding to go to. A friend is picking up the cake I've made, as I won't be able to transport them. To help her navigate, I've made boxes to travel them, just like an art handler would do. So, always document with a photo, right?

Pallett Plate

Using buttercream frosting as the medium, and gel colors to tint, I can experiment with shades and mixes of frosting. Seems simple, but it feels just like what I do when I print. Which will be MONDAY!! Can't wait.

Tick that Off the List

I've got the major cake in the freezer. And given our very warm days, I'll bet they are happy in that ice box. On to finish the other tasks. Oh, for those cake decorators, I've been getting my advice from "British Girl Bakes" on youtube. She's taught me all I know.

Reality of Life

I've been baking carrot cake to the point where I think I can do this without looking. Suffice to say that it is getting difficult to make studio time. Oh, yes, I take care of office stuff, but getting a block of time to create is getting more difficult. August will be better.

Making Holes

Most of today was spent catching up on assembling a dress. The back is drawn together with ribbons, part of the pattern, and it asked for stitched holes to direct the ribbon. I've never sewn something so time consuming. Good thing there is Netflix.

The Next Diversion

I've been tasked with making a wedding gown. After four or more (I've lost count) drafts I've got the okay to start using the final fabric. I've redrafted the pattern, fit the bodice, and will start to get this assembled. Wish me luck. Gowns are not my wheelhouse!

Diversions

This summer is full of things that take me away from the hours I have for my work, but then, these things will soon be behind me in the fall. This is a mock up of a dress for a wedding later this summer. It's got a way to go, but at least some decisions have been made.

Friday Fun Day

I've been given the honor of making a wedding cake, and so am becoming a beginner cake decorator. It's fun, challenging, surprising, and rewarding. But, that means I have a lot of cake nowadays. Oh, well.

New and Just Hung Up

I can't remember if I posted this here. "Family Wedding" tuned out pretty wide and high, about 7' x 8'. It won' last long on that wall, covering the light switches, but I had to live with it for a bit. Destined for a show this summer, we'll see what happens.
