Idea File

I like the way this pallet was used to highlight the businesses. Have to remember this for the next recycled project. Or if I run a building with many users.

Hanging Around

I use wide pocket drape rods, minus their plastic brackets, to hang my works. The rods are aluminum, painted, and have a hole in them at either end. The fact that they are expandable is perfect for my quilt du jour changes.

Bookmarked Marble

Downtown at the County Clerk's office was where I had to be today, but my eye was distracted by the incredible marble on the walls. It is almost unreal. And beautiful. Makes me want to get out the dye pots and do some monoprinting. Might just do that.

First Signature for 2013?

Pink Leaf 5, for lack of a better title, is now signed and hanging in the hall. I believe it is the first finished piece this year. But, I think that I have some other things to get done first, then I can work from the design wall. That is all right. This summer will be much more agreeable for work.

At the Windsor Whips Gallery

My Mummies Merged is now seen in a show in Windsor, New York, with a total of nine artists’  works. The exhibit is titled “Fantastic Fiber Art and Bewitching Baskets” and is on view until April 13, 2013.

Flor from Nancy

My friend, Nancy, noticed this Flor rug and snapped a shot that I am sharing (okay with you, Nancy?). This is a group of carpet squares, each about 2 feet square, and arranged in a way that reminds me of a woven or pieced bit of fiber art.

Graphic Image

That little postcard you hand out for your show, or that announcement for your group, is always an important part of your identity. And these cards live on and on, sometimes resurfacing and reconnecting. Artists' cards are always works of art in themselves.

Icons Section

"George" is peeking out of the "People & Portraits" book by Martha Seilman. I just got my copy in the mail. It is part of the series called Art Quilt Portfolio. George has some very nice company.

Suspended Art

I came across this series of frames that hang selected artworks at the Village Gate located in Rochester, New York. Nice idea, but maybe needs more oomph. Hmmm, maybe some fiber art for the out of doors?

Sideways

This photo wants to be sideways, perhaps to illustrate the charm and talent of Susie Seligman and Pat Machamer, who are in their EXTREMELY colorful booth at the AQS Lancaster show. Big, bold, beautiful.

Time for Lunch

The Lancaster Central Market is a stone's throw from the AQS quilt show at the Marriott, and full of great inexpensive and tasty food. A few souvenirs as well. Designed by James Warner, it has stood and operated continuously since 1889.

Off Kilter

Of the many lovey quilts at Lancaster, most were symmetrical, even, calm. Few were as bold as Betty Busby's "Willow Revisited" where the applique and stitch told the story, and the design seemed to be carried by the wind.

Shibori in Lancaster

Using my shibori dyed fabric, a student in my Lancaster class has started to assemble the blocks to make this pattern. We take a photo from above to check out if the colors and pattern are working -- it is hard to step back to see it -- and proclaim it a go.

Seen at the Show

Teri Lucas' and Keith Dommer's quilt caught my eye at the AQS Lancaster show this past weekend. Maybe it was the fabric, or the symmetry of the work, or just that it was different. It is titled "Tilde".

Full Size Sketch

Encouraged to "go big, or go home", Pam is setting up her full sized draft for her work in the "Cutting Up the Pretties" class in Lancaster. Check out that dizzy flooring. Hard to concentrate, but we managed -- with great results.

Reward for Best in Show

After the champagne, the celebration, the mention in the press, posting in national news, the best might just be indulging in ice cream. Here is Chris, and a happy Best of Show winner at Lancaster AQS show.

The Crowd was Smokin

They were not smoking, it just looks that way. They were here in Lancaster for the All Star Review, and were great to laugh at my jokes and hang in until I ended the line-up. Having a great time in Pennsylvania.

Cutting Up in Lancaster

Now working with a full scale drawing as a guide, the intrepid Kathy decides just what will work, and what will go in my class for AQS called "Cutting Up the Pretties". Tomorrow I'm on to "The Big Leaf".

New York Clambake

My friends at the Tompkins County Quilt Guild have this great quilt on view here in Lancaster. For a raffle quilt, it sure is sweet. Find me for a ticket, Conestoga room on the fourth floor.

Doppleganger

The lobby at the Marriott in Lancaster has a knitter following a knitter. Too strange, but I can get used to it.

Road Trip

Fabric is folded for the Shibori class, bundles ready for the Big Leaf class. Got my cereal, road food, and hand sewing kits. Tomorrow I head south to Lancaster and the AQS quilt show for four days of teaching. Oh, got my ibuprofen as well.

Instructions

Well, never think one would know which end to yield the box cutter. Quilts have arrived in Windsor, and the opening is less than a week away.

Fabric Bundles

Next week for my class "The Big Leaf" my kits are just two of these fabric bundles. Picking two will be difficult. Need more possibilities. I know what I will be doing tomorrow.

Wanting Spring

A friend dropped off a beautiful bunch of iris (and yes, this is their true color), and I have enjoyed watching them open and uncurl. I know that spring is not too far away.

Details, Details

Line Item is now at the Windsor Whip Works Gallery in Windsor, New York waiting for the opening of Fabulous Fiber Art & Bewitching Baskets. This is a detail, you'll have to visit between March 16 and April 13 to get the full story.

Morning Company

First you just see lumps of brown in the snow. Then you notice one, which becomes 8. All tucked in. And there were four more in the woods a few more feet away. Who called them all?

One Fish, Two Fish

Dr. Seuss would appreciate what I came across at the local Wegman's today. Dye infused blue orchids. You could also pick yellow or green, too. Or just skip them and grab some milk and bread.

It's in the Bag, er, Box

Three quilts will be on the FedEx truck off to Windsor Whips Gallery tomorrow. This one is 88" long. One of the reasons why I don't drive a sports car.

Spring is Way Away

These tulips are finished gracing the counter, and soon will add to the (de)composition in the back yard. They now are just a pick-up stick study.

Reaching Light

I was playing catch-up in recording this piece. I had not photographed it. Measures 24" x 40" and reminds me of that chandelier I posted a couple of days ago -- all twiggy.

Pamela Allen's Quilted Stitch

Back in September 2010 I came across Pamela Allen's piece "Three Women at the Hilton" and had to record the intricate quilting she puts in the field. I know this is a fuzzy photo, but had to share it with you. Brava, Pamela.
