Showing and Telling

Two days doesn't seem enough time to  grasp printing on textiles. What with the science of it all, the technical parts, and the artistic/design component. But, heck, we did it. Genesee Valley Quilt Club managed to find a room, get a group, and order a perfect printing two days. Thank you all!
 

You Rub Me the Right Way

Never underestimate a good rubbing. It can give a white background character, break up a dull flat plane, and behave like a charcoal drawn line. Just one way to strike. We're at the Genesee Yacht Club and surrounded by giant boats now drydocked waiting to sail.
 

Quilts and History

Part of the meeting for many quilt guilds or clubs is the section of show and tell. A gentleman brought this antique quilt -- very early, maybe late 1800s -- to show us. I'm always intrigued. He noted that it hung on his bedroom wall until he had to downsize, now it's not on display. But we got to see it and remember.  
 

Playing to the Home Crowd

It was a wonderful trip back to home base for my first in person lecture in over two years. The Genesee Valley Quilt Club was reenergizing, reminding me of all the connections and care they gave me when I was just starting out in the public realm 20 years ago. Thank you all!
 

Nearing the End of the Slog

I've soda soaked about 150+ yards of labeled cotton for the upcoming year's classes. My April 2-3 printing class with the Genesee Valley Quilt Club (a few seats are available) is the only class which will have the fabric supplied by moi. I'm ready to end this task.

Mind Your Back

I held my corner of the room just fine. The Genesee Valley Quilt Club held its demo derby today and I led four (almost) identical demos called "Mind Your Back" which discussed backing fabrics, facing, binding, sleeves, and how to hand on the wall. They loved it, I love them.

Wild Quilts, or Quilts Gone Wild

Eleanor Levie was in town for her lecture "Quilts Gone Wild" at the Genesee Valley Quilt Club. She started with this top that was scrappy, improvisational, and vintage. One of her favorites, and mine too. The quilt at right is the GVQC raffle quilt. Talk about new/old.

Sharks Make Me Happy

Kim Werth's shirt reads "Sharks Make Me Happy" and so on, but I think  what we're celebrating is the top notch quilting on her latest piece. With luck, it'll be on the road for the world to see. And then she can play with the sharks. This from the GVQC meeting today.

Admiration Society

Yesterday was the monthly meeting of the quilt club and part of the fun is to see members' work up close and in detail. One member quilted a tree where she "carved" her husband's and her names in the trunk of a tree. Clever clever.

Home Town Gal

It was my honor today to be the lecturer at the Genesee Valley Quilt Club, my home base for quilting guilds. Never finding time to take even one photo, I leave you with this camellia bloom. It reminds me of the kindness and generosity of the members I have known and loved.

Stop at the Quilt Club
