Gatherings Round Town

I was a guest at a birthday party on the outskirts of Rochester. While the party was hopping, I slipped away to the grove of redbuds to take in the evening light. It is both wonderful to be with people I meet 'on the road' teaching and also to be back with those who have known me for years. Old, new; both good.
 

Night Out

Mountain Stage was here in Rochester, NY, to record a live broadcast for air in a few weeks. My part was easy, just be the audience. This finale had all on stage but a couple, and a good mix of all genres of music. I had a great time, and am lucky to be minutes away from Kodak Hall and what it has to offer.
 

First Friday Fun in 301

Our studio building, once a shoe factory, now houses a restaurant on the ground floor, as well as a violin shop and four floors of artist's studios. Many open their doors to the 'crowds' on the first Friday of each month. I'll be here in Studio 301, not back on First Fridays till June. So, hey, see me while you can!
 

Hometown Gang

Tonight's lecture was with the Irondequoit Art Club, held in a suburb of Rochester. A treat to have an accepting audience, and also one that knew exactly all the places around! I meant to get the room full of about 60 people, but was so busy talking, didn't. Oh, well, you know it was fun.
 

Downtown Today

Out of town visitors suggested we see what the flea market at the center of town had to offer. My eyes were opened to what the crowd looked like (not me) and wanted -- old retro clothing. There were some refashioned fashions, colorful apparal, and a few food trucks to tempt. All news to me.
 

Take What is Offered

Yes, today was Totality here in Rochester, and though yesterday was picture perfect clear blue sky, today was not. We Rochesterians accept that, and take what we can -- which was a brilliant 360 degree sunset/sunrise on the horizon. The hushed crowd stood together on that, our gem for the wait.
 

Small Business Saturday

I've got to wait to reveal the garments I'm making till after the December 8th show, so here's the diversion for Saturday. Since it was Small Business Saturday, a trip to the Rochester Art Supply was in order. And yes, I did grab some fabulous printed paper. The assortment is amazing.
 

Empty Seats

Thursday was the meeting for the Genesee Valley Quilt Club here in town. With caution many came, but many, many did not. We're all learning how not attending looks. I've some classes and lectures that have been cancelled, and am learning to go with the flow.

First Friday's gem was an exhibition of Judy Levy's pencil drawings. She choose to illustrate her collection of objects (many I recognized and owned) in pencil --a drastic change in medium from her photography. They were delightful, engaging, and real. I think that was her goal.

Indoor Pursuits

There's no image for sitting at the computer, running errands, crossing off lists. But I'm glad the weather is mild enough for a walk, yet cold enough to return me to tasks at hand.

Maintenance

I tackled the garden today. After being away for more than two weeks the garden just kept on being its growing spectacle. But it needed weeding and planting. And I needed to get outside and tend to home. And plant my feet back in home turf.

Almost Missed This One

I entered three works in the Memorial Art Gallery's exhibition "Finger Lakes" and got a notice for declining the first two. Hadn't thought about the third, and hadn't read that it was accepted. Come to find, yup, I'm in. So in June, "Take Two: Chinese Lanterns" will be seen.

Rochester's First Friday from 6-9 will include Studio 402's gathering of self-portraits from lots artists in diverse media.Beside fiber, there's painted collage, assemblage, rug hooking, traditional painting and drawing. See you there -- Anderson Arts Building, Goodman Street, Rochester, New York.

It's Sunday Art Time

The Little Cafe openings are fun and filled with art and artists. And Sunday, cloudy and gloomy? Head to the Little and check out what is happening. Tonight, I'll sew a facing. Today, I'll see some art.

Goings on in the Hood

A quilt show in my neighborhood, just a block away! These lovely works by members of the Rochester Modern Quilt Guild had this  -- with a title "My Neighborhood" -- pieced by Sharon Clark and quilted by Nick Williams. I love being home.

Break Time

The  legendary Joe Beard was playing acoustic blues guitar tonight, so with a few other friends I took in the concert. Best blues I've heard, ever.

Stay-Cation

It was a mid-winter break today with a friend. We found Frederick Douglas (in statue form above), visited Susan B. Anthony's home, and the Memorial Art Gallery, with a few more things throw in for a great day close to home.

Christmas Eve

Who's woods these are I know, they belong to us all. They are in Washington Grove near Cobb's Hill. They are mine for just this moment, captured here in stillness, and then I release them back to those who will walk here next.

2016 Out of Focus

I'd like to remember 2016 as this is  --  a bit exuberant, but completely out of focus. I had lovely travels, and met such wonderful people along my way. It is with fondness that I leave this year behind, and am wishing for clarity for the new year. One can hope.

Tomorrow's First Friday is Me

My work at NU MVMNT, a fitness studio, is featured in the First Friday offerings for Rochester's gallery night. Stop in at 716 University Avenue 6 - 9. The entrance is the backside of the building on University. Today Deborah Massie Boschert visited just to make sure I was on my game.
