Monday is Go Day

Lisa wasted no time getting to print, and this dress will be ready to wear tomorrow, if only we had a washer on hand. It was a day to do EVERYTHING all at once. So I was on my toes getting the materials out, but not always as quick as I wanted. And some fine stuff is cooking, and looking good. Independence!

Stitch and the Story

Schweinfurth's exhibition incluides this graphic stitching, with a message I can't read -- as it's in French. No matter, it caught my eye for the composition with both heavy and light figures.

Schweinfurth's Summer Exhibition

This summer at the Schweinfurth Art Center there is a fiber exhibition created by Surface Design Associates. The name is something like Textiles but written in a code that makes writing about the title difficult. It is still a fastinating show despite the title. This installation caught me, a felted rock heaven.

QBL 2026 Indepent Print Studio

I'll be at Quilting By the Lake THIS summer from July 25 to August 1!  Independent Studio workspace is an opportunity to stretch and work in depth with students for the week. The class is not yet up on the website for the Schweinfurth, but you can call and register. Wow! I'm so excited.

The Pleasent Surprises

Susan tried a few motifs on this half yard, with great results. It was a good three days of experimenting, technique exploration, and taking notes on how diverse the printing outcomes could be from a dozen people. The Schweinfurth offers such a nice work space for a wet studio, and I always love it there.

Tower of Printing

The latest printing class;s tower -- usually foam insulation boards with plastic cups between -- held wet prints. You've got to love the setting at Gateway Canyon where Alegre retreat was held. We'll do this again for the Schweinfurth's workshop, and use an old fashioned clothesline in Pacific Northwest Art School.

Two places with two spots each are open for you and a friend (new or old) to print on fabric. May 29-31 is at the Schweinfurth Art Center for "Just Silkscreens" and then June 15-19 I'll be in Coupeville, Washington at the PNWAS of Pacific Northwest Art School for a week of printing wild. Join me!

Schweinfurth's Head Shot

If you've not noticed, I'll be printing on (almost) home turf May 29-31 for a three day class in Just Silkscreens. We'll be hunkered down at the Schweinfurth Art Center in their lovely print workshop space. It's a great opportunity to print -- I'll mix the dyes! -- and take in a surface design opening there as well.

Finger Lakes Fiber Artists

I belong to a small and diverse group of fiber artists (Finger Lakes Fiber Artists) that gets together every couple of months to share work, their goings on, and information on exhibitions, opportunities, and professional well-being. Plus, it's just a nice group of friends.

Screen Day Begins

My favorite printing method is the silkscreen. The techniques, applications, happenstance, and compositional choices are nearly endless. One could be paralyzed with the choices, but that's sometimes the fun. I'll be teaching "Just Silkscreens" end of May at the Schweinfurth Art Center in Auburn, NY.

Just Silksceen Printing

The Schweinfurth Art Center will host my workshop for three days this May 29-31, 2026 -- Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 9 to 4, . As the title of the workshop goes, it is Just Silkscreens, so be prepared for some large scale, vibrantly colored prints. And it'll be during the opening of the SDA show, a bonus!

Stitching Rules

l regret not having the name of the best in show winner for QAQ, I'll try to update. This double sided work was of interest in the stitching that was added, outlining shapes from each side, and stitching so each side had even stitches showing. It is the focus of the judge for this type of work as well.

Schweinfurth Artists' Talks

Chriss Johns talks about her large, dramatic work during today's artist talk at the Schweinfurth's exhibit Quilts=Art=Quilts. There was a robust crowd, all engaged with the ideas and processes, plus the extra chance to take in the artworks. It was a day to be energized by the works there, each having a 'say'.

Good Night for Q=A=Q

The opening of Quilts=Art=Quilts was a grand time. I was able to meet so many artists new to me, to find ones I'd not seen in a few years, and to take in a very strong show of fiber work that was creative and varied. Ending the night with a dinner and talk by Juror and Judge Paula Kovarik was icing,

Lotus Land 2 Off to QAQ

This little work (20 x 31) 'Lotusland 2' is in the post headed to the Schweinfurth's silent auction. The Quilts=Art=Quilts exhibition, where my 'Lotusland" is accepted, will also have this on view. I love making a smaller companion for the exhibit. And I like helping to support the Schweinfurth's mission.

Never the Twain

I've two works to go to respective shows, left for the members show at RoCo, right for the silent auction for Quilts=Art=Quilts. But not before I have some fun joining them to see possibilities I'll not grab. Another time, another set.

QBL Visits Schweinfurth

I got the chance to return to the Schweinfurth Art Center and see the exhibit that featured my work alongside three other surface designers -- Petra Fallaux, Margaret Boys Wolf, and Karen Schulz. The Quilting By the Lake students (all astute, kind, fun) were there as the treat for the night.

Imprinted on Cloth

Tonight was the opening of the Schweinfurth Art Center's exhibition with four surface designers -- Petra Fallaux, Karen Schulz, Margaret Boys Wolf, and me. It is a lovely look at rich  color applied to fabric, unique voices and motifs, and a wonderful statement on current surface design in fiber work. Go see!

Your Invited Saturday

Drinks are on the house, er, the Schweinfurth Art Center. It should be a wonderful set of works who share the art of printing on fabric. They may even have cookies, too.
