Linen at Your Service

I've printed a utility weight linen for pillows, chair covers, seats cushions, or practical functional items. Many have taken these and hand stitched, which is a wonderful base for improv stitching. I'll add some to my webstore next week, if there is a chance. 
 

Missed the Deadline

I'd promised my daughter two pillowcases for her 24 x 24 pillows. I got one finished on Christmas day. The second waits. A poor photo here, I'll get the finals later. I printed linen in the same color way and graphic as her duvet cover. I like them so much might have to made more -- for Mrs. Claus!
 

They Show Up

I try to make generic pieces, ones that someone else can put their drawings to, but it must be that I am composing without thinking. I've a set of squares of linen that people who stitch like to use, and this one caught my attention. Almost enough to make a stitcher out of me!
 

Linen Lined Up

After adding a dozen yards of prints, I'm now getting to posting new linen for sale on my website store. I make these for those who love Ariane Zurcher's improv stitching class (and handy YouTube videos -- "On the Other Hand") who use my printed linen as the base for their works. These are some.
 

Making Marks

This piece of printed linen was made exactly as my cotton. The only step different is that I zig-zag stitch the cut sides before I soda soak the fabric. That way it doesn't unravel or fray too much in washing. The screen print is paper left from printing labels. I'll have to capture that in Tyvek to last longer. 
 

Crazy Linen

Screen printing on linen uses the exact same techniques and mixes, but the results are so different. The linen shows more of the weave, and it has that softness and drape that is missing from cotton. Hope that those hand-stitchers like these new pieces. 
 

Room Full of Linen

I've started to wash out the linen I'm making to put on the website store. These long pieces are doubles that will be cut in two. I'm discovering that I love the way that linen prints, and would like to make a shift or shirt for this summer. If only I had time! 
 

On The Line

New linen is here and I've started the dye printing process by soda ash soaking. These will wait till I've got the time, and dyes are set to go. It'll take a week to get these on the website store, but I'm not going anywhere!
 

Kind Days of Christmas 10

After Christmas I dove back into the studio and printed more linen pieces. Students of Ariane Zurcher like to needlework these, and the kind Ariane let her folks know they were available. Half are gone already. Here's what the bunch looks like. 
 

Oh, For Time

Here's one detail of a piece of linen. There are just a couple of pieces left, and I think that if I had time and solitude, this would be the one I'd like to stitch. But that is not time I have, so this has gone. I'll have to make more. 

 

Linen as Well

I've a few pieces of linen on my drying rack shuffled in the cottons. Most all are washed out, which takes three long cycles. But I don't have to stand and watch them, I can go about sewing up the scarves, ironing the rest, and whittling down my pile of "need to finish" pieces. That's the fun part.
 

Linen for Ariane

Ariane Zurcher teaches improvisational needlework. She asked me to print sets of two linen squares for her upcoming class. These are the large pieces before I cut them apart and paired them together. You'd need to be registered in her class to purchase this, but maybe I'll do more after Thanksgiving. 
 

Reclaimation

It takes a couple of days to return the workshop examples I to their little spots and clear the studio for the next project. But I'll first finish piecing the top of the last example I made as a demonstration for the Dozen ways workshop. Then maybe even quilt it. The blue are two linens waiting to be cut and sold.
 

Requests

I broke out the intense blue for the next set of linen painted fabrics. Of course, I mixed in a bit of other stuff from my usual palette. And I hope that that intense stays intense. I use MX dyes from Pro Chemical and Dye in Massachusetts. They ship quick, and love to work with them.

Linen in the Queue

It will take me a couple of weeks to get the next batch of linen printed, but tonight was a start. I must have fall on my mind since these colors just repeated over and again. I'll force myself to take on the night sky next. I love that palette. 
 

Linen Ironed and Ready

I promised Ariane Zurcher that I'd print and dye some linen in response to her classes in hand stitching. They are now ready to be "quartered" and then photographed and added to the web site store. So, in a couple of days. Then I've got to get ready for other things!
 

Don't Get Too Excited

My small supply of linen is now ready to color. I say don't get too excited because: 1. you are seeing it wet, and therefore much much darker than it will be in the finished fabric, and 2. I have to go through all of the linen to print, then photograph, then add to the website store. 
 

Linen Requested

A friend requested linen for hand stitching and I obliged. This is a detail of the generous yard piece that I will box up tomorrow and mail. I've others, and she'll get those too. I'll make more, then get them to the website shop. Unless they're spoken for.
 

Linen is Wonderful

A stitcher, one who makes her designs with thread and needle in intricate stitches, asked me if I'd make some linen that was dyed. So I did. This is larger than a yard, and may split it into quarters. Gut it's a lovely suiting weight. Hope she likes it. 
 

Ta Daaaaaa

Over a month back I showed you a piece my son-in-law commissioned for sound absorbing panels. I printed and painted on white unprimed linen, that was stretched over a frame and stuffed with Rock Wool. Here's the installation. I'd like it even if it didn't absorb.
