Four Out the Door

 All four of the small works (2' x 2') have gone to forever homes from the gallery exhibit at QSDS. This image is a compliation using a phone app called Layout. It lets me group images and crop a bit to fit into a simple grid. Rudimentary, but easy to gang photos for note taking. 

Couple of QSDS Weeks

It is all about the people. Who is there, who gets the laugh, who gets the flowers, who honors a mentor. We had fun, did a boat load of work, and took home lots of ways to go about making art, and of course, making friends. Good bye QSDS, and best for those who led us to this symposim.
 

Go Big

 

Two Cleveland area friends were in the Design Camp workshop at QSDS and needed a third design wall for all the work they created in about three days. Working through some design prompts, they moved and changed the design until these solutions appeared. What fun to see it come alive!

Worth Remembering

The design challenge: take part of my "failed quilt" and use it in a composition. Spread throughout the wall, I ganged them up in columns and created this patchwork, aiming to the compose a whole. They are there in their blocks, each creative, each a lovely part of the week. Thank you Design Campers!
 

Part of the Fun

I get all wound up in the making art, and forget that classes are about having fun. Well, I for one do have fun, and in the process of noting what was on the wall, caught where the action really is -- sharing a laugh with a classmate. Camp is good, the food us just fine, and there's fun and games for sure.
 

Challenge

For my week long "Design Camp" workshop I brought some unfinished parts that never worked well in my design. As they were all made of the same group of fabrics, it was suggested by one of the students that they all get a part and build a small study using them. This was the result. A great set of solutions!
 

Pick a Print

I with I could show you the vast output 20 printers can make. We had a seperate room to lay, hang and stack our prints, and even that wasn't enough at times. The seven day class is over, it was a blast, and now I've turned to sewing, cutting, and design for the last week at QSDS.

 

Atypical Moment

Our week with printing with thickened dye had us gloved and aproned. But there were a few times we came together to talk design, technique, and art. Rare, but needed. I brought "Plants Take a Holiday" to talk about, and it was nice to have feedback on the printing variety in the piece.
 

Show Offs

There was a lot of happy going around today as we looked at the week's results from Printing Under the Influence. The seven day class left a long day to dig in and print, print, print. 
 

Auction Winner

Judy outbid the crowd that thought my work was the one. She's kind to value it, and knows how I print this as we were together in a class at QSDS a few years ago. I know it will be appreciated, as I appreciate knowing it's off to its forever home. Thank you Judy!
 

Printing Under Influence

One person's print influences another's work. You can't help but watch how layers are placed, decisions are made, and finishing details are chosen. It's a great group of people, and we're making a lot of workable prints at QSDS.
 

In the Thick of It

By Wednesday one can't tell the experienced printers from the novices. In fact, I can't even remember. Some of the exercises are repeated from other classes, but they always yield such different results. I wish you could see the 'drying room' where there are about 80 yards of prints full of energy.
 

Lineup of the Squares

QSDS has a faculty show every year. Mine are ganged up and seem to get a lot of attention. At least many have mentioned them to me. Which means a lot, so I know that they tune in to my style of piecing and using my prints in compositions. 
 

Explosion of Day One

Many of the folks in this QSDS class are proficient in technique and composition. Doesn't stop them from having the experience of others working close by. We are all influencers in this regard, watching pieces develop in real time. Why being amongst the print club is a good thing.
 

Stacking Them Up

I've been ironing, a chore I love, and making a stack of my printed fabric for sale at QSDS. My hope is that some will grab them for the sewing and design class on the second week there (as well as in August on Cape Cod) to use in the class. I frequently have some who want to do that, and I'm happy to help.

Silk on the Road

What makes it easy to let go of these silk scarves? Mostly because I own a zillion already. These will go with me to QSDS for the vendor night. Always fun, a bit frantic, and fabulous works from the people who are in classes or there teaching. 
 

Printing Scarves

When I head off to QSDS at the end of this month I'll be bringing printed silk scarves with me. I'm printing the table here using thickened dyes that I've drawn into. My wallpaper brush has the right amount of pressure to smooth over the image. I'll have fabric, too. Look for me on vendor night. Open to all.
 

Found Objects

On the streets of Baltimore today I found so many shapes, and I've collected these for my class Printing Under the Influence at QSDS this May. I've many more, and I'll print them out for reference when I get to the image part of the printing. I know I can translate this in several techniques. 
 

Three Down, One to Go

I've brought these three 2 x 2 pieces with me on my grandmother visit, so naps, and in between times I can get the facings and sleeves sewn down. Since I was reticent to use straight pins, I folded, ironed, and then basted the facings. It wasn't difficult to remove basting, and it left no worry about loose pins.
 

Almost

An inch shy because I didn't carefully estimate the height led me to circle back to fix this. Missed the mark when cutting this freehand, and I want this size to be the same for all four. So, I'll fix to get that 2 x 2 square of it. But I've a hunk of fabric,  a little time, and this is the last one.
