Kitchen Taking Shape

 Doors and drawers appeared in the kitchen today. We're still a way to go, but it's nice to see how things will look. I've a ton of painting to do, and massive cleaning up, but at least we can see that this is worth the trouble. 

Recon Mission to Ikea

The studio is needing these legs from Ikea. They telescope from table height to counter height. Perfect. Saw them on my visit to Syracuse to pick up more items to build the kitchen. It will end soon, let's hope.
 

One Among Many

The day was filled with pickups, bank stuff, and most importantly, building the first base cabinet. It took hours (the first always does) so the next 6 bases should breeze by. Oh, and my wonderful helpers we just that. I even got dinner al fesco. Then I tackled removing the old vanity for the new one. Never ending.
 

Busman's Holiday

I've designed about a dozen kitchens, half of them IKEA based. So, a visit to the IKEA store and what's new is always of great interest to me. I love the clean design, the textiles, the use of materials, the functionality of the product, and well, a good plate of Swedish meatballs. 
 

Way Off Mark

A quick trip to IKEA while visiting Baltimore had me remembering why I love clean modern design. This rug, woven with that red check, would just be great to print, and then mess up. Ideas, for sure. 

Use What You Like

A few years back I bought this hunk of IKEA printed fabric. It has a lovely weight, and takes dye beautifully. Yes, I washed it and soda soaked it, before monoprinting. I'll certainly do more, and I'll look for more available printed fabric to try out.

Caught in Reflection

Yesterday, at the Ikea in New Haven, Connecticut I saw this reflection of the now vacant Marcel Breuer building (1970), caught just above the entrance. Already missing a large part of its building, the "tower" remains for now, but its future looks bleak. Perhaps it will be replaced by a hologram.

Christmas at Ikea

A stop at the New Haven Ikea held these delights with ribbons of torn fabric. Very fiberesque. I love the stick trees. Alas, we could not find the trees for sale. Guess I will have to make them myself. But after I finish with fall raking. Geesh.
