It's a Start

The annual portrait show is in the Anderson Arts Building, where my studio is located. I've pulled together some fabrics I'd like to use that may suggest a figure. I've a couple of days to get this off to them, and I'm not committed, but I'd like to make the deadline. If my head clears from this cold, I might make it.

An Arm and a Leg

Schweinfurth's upper gallery has an exhibit from the Cayuga Historical Museum of 200 years of Cayuga's history. Among the portraits was this double. The term "an arm and a leg" for something costly came from pricing paintings, where more shown cost more to paint. Thus, a pricy double.

Portrait Step Sewn

I'll get this quilted soon. Here the raw edge is machine applique, if you can even call it that. I've crudely sewn it onto the background, leaving no finished edge. My plan is to quilt along that edge as well, to establish the edge of the area for each "piece".

In Time for First Friday

It always takes twice as long as you think. Why I don't remember this rule -- well -- it would help. Tomorrow I'll sweep up a bit and accept guests who drop in for Rochester's First Friday events. I'm in studio 301 with this monster, my little portrait is upstairs in 402 for a show. Split personality!

Self Portrait Time

Each year artists are invited to the self portrait show in Studio 402 in Anderson Arts. Why I wait till the last almost minute, I can't say. This came to me, it's 26" x 20 and titled "Alien Walking Her Dog". Tonight I'm binding it, so done. I've got wrapping to do!

My Portrait is Ready

I keep looking at this, and I try not to add more to it. Though I could. It is finished with a facing and sleeve to hang. Even signed. But I still want to add more. Let's call is finished.

Oh, No, Now What

I continue to explore how to set this figure. Settled on a background, and reconfigured the figure, so to speak. Sit tight, I'm getting the quilting done.

Round Three

Exploring a different background and a change of clothes for this next portrait. I'll keep some of this, but maybe make it all a bit tamer.

Round Two

Another iteration of a portrait. I've a renewed admiration for those who make representational art.

Portrait Draft Begins

I've been included in a small portrait show this January. Since I seldom make recognizable people, it presents a challenge for me. Here is my first iteration. Most fabrics are leftover from the previous quilt.

A Face in the Crowd

A collection of portraits line a construction site in downtown Portland. While last night, I became one of the crowd stuck at O'Hare when the airport went down . Then I was just a face at the gate.
