Raffle Quilts

Part of the party tomorrow will be to raffle off some of my older works, some that were used in teaching as examples, and some that should be enjoyed and appreciated. So, the studio is transformed and tomorrow is a giving day.

What Shows and Tells

Jenna was at our club's meeting yesterday, and this Shibori Half Square Triangle quilt came out for show and tell. We made this in a class at least 4 years ago, and I'm always glad to see a project finished, especially one that I had a hand in! Nice going, Jenna.

Foolin Around

I had seen a new method for making half-square triangles, and couldn't keep myself from taking a detour (from my next piece) and trying out the process. Love it! And it would be fun to get a class together to share this. I make the squares in almost no time, and I don't have to cut triangles.

Checking the Quilt Show

I've gotten a quick glance of the 2016 Quilt Show at Metropark in Kirtland, Ohio. This caught my eye because it is from a workshop I taught a couple of years ago -- the Shibori Half-Square Triangle Quilt. Guess the judges like it as well.

Using that Wild Fabric

My Shibori Half-Square class doesn't discriminate. You can use ANY fabric. Here is a set of rather wild hand-dyed fabric (not mine) that is getting set for the framing squares. Pretty wild, but that is the total fun of it. Thanks, Elmira Piecemakers, for a fabulous day. See you tomorrow!

Square Idea

For the class this Tuesday in Elmira "The Shibori Half-Square Triangle" I use drywall T-squares. I get them from Home Depot or Lowes and they are about $11. Great for squaring up the finished quilt, too.

Shibori of Many Colors

It always surprises me how a piece of shibori dyed fabric can have so many variables. This is one for a batch I am making for a class in Elmira next month at the Piecemakers Quilters of Elmira guild. The underdye is blue and red, and overdyed with an orange brown.

Jan's Puzzle

The Half Square Triangle can spin in many directions, and this quick draft had the blocks weaving in and out. But that was just fooling around. Jan (who made up the blocks) will settle on a setting, and I hope she shares it with me.

Gonna Need a Taller Bucket

I've got the fabric that I underpainted with dye all scrunched up and ready to put in a dye bath. But, unless I can scrunch the fabric more, it won't fit. This fabric will go with me to the Shibori Half-Square Triangle Quilt workshop in Tennessee next month.

Presents Under the Tree

Now that it is mid-December, gifts appear under the tree. My daughter used the half-square triangle pattern to make the quilt, and finished tonight. She did the sewing, long-arm quilting, and binding. And, in that wonderful tradition of quilt making, she will give it away.

Half-Square Triangle of a Different Sort

In an incredibly short time, my daughter and I cut out and sewed up one of my Half-Square Triangle quilts. I usually use shibori fabric, but this is all commercial. We've got it on the longarm tonight, and will quilt it up tomorrow.

Shibori Get Together

Selecting two pieces for a Half-Square Triangle Quilt to make for a present this season is not too difficult. The last batch of shibori had happy coincidences. I'll miss the warm weather to "underpaint" the fabric, but I can make due in the wet studio this winter.

Saturday for Shibori

I'll bring this one with me for this Saturday's class (AQS Des Moines) on how to make (pretty quickly) a half-square triangle quilt with my shibori fabric. They are all different patterns, and all beautiful.

Sloads of Shibori

Next week I'll be at the AQS show in Des Moines, Iowa, teaching "Shibori Half Square Triangle". And for that I need scads of shibori. So, in the studio I go, making wonderful patterned fabric. Come join the class if you are nearby!

Back at the Studio

For my class in October, at AQS Des Moines, I got eleven shibori pieces (pre-painted, that helped) twisted on the tubes and in the dye bath today. But this soda-soaked fabric was just calling me to do something. Maybe multitasking is ok.

Perfectly Gray Day to Photograph

An overcast day was perfect to snap a shot of my shibori half-square triangle quilt. I promised that a pic to the groups who will be making this in upcoming workshops. I use just three one yard pieces; that is the fun of it.

How Others See Us

I was caught on Tina's camera in my Lake Havasu class on Friday. We are debating the merits of how to finish this quilt. What a great space to spread out and work. This is me on three hours of sleep, having forgotten my ability to straighten my wardrobe.

Center of Interest

In a class for the Shibori Half-Square Triangle quilt, We laid it out on a table, (not pinned to a design wall). It is much easier to flip and exchange while flat, but hard to see the total effect. So, a shot from above takes care of that. This is just two one yard pieces of my shibori fabric.

Marimekko on the Chopping Block

When I asked students to bring in their wildest printed fabric, I was looking exactly for this. A large scale Marimekko fabric with lots of punch, as well as a fabric that begs to be used. It worked beautifully for this exercise.

Modern Quilt Show in Harrisburg

Lois Bruno must have been in my class this spring in Lancaster. Her quilt "Pat's Shibori" was hanging in the Harrisburg, Pennsylvania show of the Capital Area Modern Quilt Guild. I popped in to see the works, and what a surprise. And honored to have my name added as the title.
