The Start of the Blob

This demo was started in the last Make It & Break It workshop. The color and graphics I find compelling, so I'll try to finish this before our "reunion" next month. And we'll see how it works out. I'll be teaching this workshop at QSDS in Columbus, Ohio in person (!) June 4-5. Maybe you want to be there, too.
 

Summer QSDS Virtually

Surface Design Award

The Schweinfurth's "Quilts=Art=Quilts"  exhibition awarded July Hooworth's Adventure Journal #6: Siberian Autumn the Surface Design award. It is monoprinted, stamped, and discharged cotton. I got to spend time with her last summer at QSDS. Fine way to print, for sure.
 

Little Quilt for QSDS

I've got this pieced, and now heading to the longarm. Time is clearly running out, but that's how it is. Perhaps it will get finished through the week. The auction is Friday. Might get 'er done.

Four On Deck -- Improv Sketches

I took a break from printing to get these four small works on the longarm to quilt. Sure is nice to gang them together to quilt. They're a good example of improv sketches -- my  Design Camp class at QSDS this June, where they will be on exhibit.

Next Challenge

At Quilt Surface Design Symposium each year they have a delightful challenge. This year it consists of the theme of four colors -- green, yellow, blue and red. Beginnings

A yard of cotton that I've printed is the start of 4 small works for a QSDS challenge. I've started to cut it apart, and work up four small pieces. Stay tuned.

Not Being Alone

During the class, minds collaborate. Getting feedback is the best, and working side by side is a benefit -- seeing your work through another person's vision. I'll miss these people. If these friends could just walk through my studio once in a while, it would be so great.

Glad to Help

An impromptu shot of my quilt flying by as it is shown to the audience for approval at the QSDS auction. Funds raised went to the scholarship students. Glad to help out. Me? I won raffle items -- twice!

One Less Thing to Pack

This coming week I'll be teaching at QSDS, and on Tuesday night I get to show and sell my dyed and printed fabrics. I've also got a handful of silk scarves. Minus this one, which was sold before it got in the suitcase. See you all soon in Columbus!

Homework for Next Week

QSDS is next week, and I'll be teaching all design all day. I'm taking time to do a dry run on some ideas, and consequently, warm up my improv skills. Still room in the class -- come join us!

Up For Grabs

In a week or so I'll be in Columbus, Ohio teaching for Quilt Surface Design Symposium. They've asked for a piece for their scholarship auction. So, here it is. Looks like Jacks to me. Oh, and there is still room in my class. Or skip that and just bid on Jacks at the auction.

It Starts With Ironing

The pile of printed fabric from last wee's Pro Chem class was finally through a last wash, and now  as the iron makes its way across, my thoughts start to form how I'll use the fabric. I've got a piece due for the QSDS auction, if I can get it made up in time.

Make Mine a Double

I've connected two small works by their sides,  each is 24" square. They are coming off the longarm frame, to be pinned, blocked with a spritz of water, separated, then squared and faced. Then off to QSDS for their gallery of work from instructors. Look for me!

Some for the Road

Quilt Surface Design Symposium, where I'll teach in June, have asked me to send small works to display. They suggested a 24" x 24" size, so my mylar, with my handy-dandy frame drawn in marker, will check and edit, knowing the quilting changes the size.

Painted Fabric Leaf

My "painted" fabric is fun, but needs a project. Since I'll be teaching The New Big Leaf class on Wednesday, I used it here. Cut from mainly one yard, I like it! Picking Fruit

Harvest of color from these last weeks of dyeing. I'm just about finished in the dye studio for a while, and these will travel with me this year -- ahead is Arizona, Ohio, Maine, and parts in between.
