Harry Bertoia Night

As a student in design and a woodworking course, we studied chairs. Harry Bertoia made an iconic and beautiful one around 1952, and it remains forever part of our vocabulary. Tonight RIT showcased his work with a film and the celebration of 7 sculptures 'Dandelions' seen at the 1964 World's Fair. Out and About

Shopping for yarn-thread that will mend a sweater brought me round the corner to this lovely building. I'm certain it is no longer used for lunch, and I'm glad that the coffee cup is still there. The art I make would not withstand the elements, and I'm grateful for other media that can. 
 

New Year's Greetings

Lighting a sculpture is my celebration for this new year ahead. My heartfelt thank you to all who travel this journey with me. What was a cancelled year became one of great change, and it's all from your support that I can survive (and thrive!). Thank you very much for all you've done, I couldn't have done this without you. Now, let's get to 2021!
 

I Own a Barn

I've always wanted a barn. A real one, preferably. But I can't see that becoming a reality, so I bought the next best thing (with emphasis on best): a barn sculpture by Darryl Abraham. Won't need to paint it, reroof it, or treat for powder post beetles. Just enjoy owing a barn. Thanks, Darryl.

Portland Museum of Art

A new installation on American Realism is at the Portland Art Museum, and a stop there today reminded me why I so love doing this. Some were old friends, some new. The bronze of two very touching figures is by an artist who's label was elusive, so sorry I can't share. 

Museum Holiday

Between workshops I had a great day to see a bit of Massachusetts' museums. This incredible installation of PLASTER forms by Ian MacMahon is called Tether. He describes his work as sculpting with air and plaster. It is unreal.

Climbing the Wall

Lori Cooley's ladder scales a stone in this 2' high sculpture, part of a group exhibition at St. John Fisher College. It's the simplest of forms, and one often seen in fiber art -- two parallel lines crossed in rhythm.

Full Frontal

My dear reader, I hope such an angle to admire this sculpture, seen at the Montreal Art Gallery, is fine with you. The title "The Eye" would not give a clue to what is going on. Must be in the mind of the maker, David Altmejd.

Albert Paley seen in Iowa State University

This gateway on the Morrill Building at ISU made by Rochester's Albert Paley. I can't believe that I once pointed out to Albert Paley (one of America's greatest sculptors) that my name (Pauly) and his (Paley) were soooo close. I must have been about 29. What a nerd. I hope he forgot immediately.
