Hot Talk in Naples

What a lovely group who came to hear my impromptu talk about the quilts on view at the Cleveland House today. We talked about everything, and best part was that a special guest could make out the sewn script on the 5th grade bicentenial quilt. Really fun, even on this hot day. Repeat talk August 29 at 1pm!
 

Routed West

For my day and a half in San Francisco the treat was the Berkeley Area Museum and Pacific Film Archive and their "Routed West" exhibition of African American artist's quilts. A spectacular and in depth look at the reasons for these works to have made their way to California. Go see it if you're able till Nov. 30th.
 

Three Bears

I was asked about how to hang, as in, how high. Too often, the art is placed to high on the wall. I think it should be about 58-60" to the center of the work. Above, too high.

Here it's too low. The couch is a low couch, but still, not enough breathing space between. 

Ah, just right. I eyeballed this, and low and behold, it turned out to be 58" at the center.

Refrigerator Art

Postcards sized things came in the mail. In an envelope, as there is no area for an address. I'll be in an exhibit at the Main Street Arts gallery in Clifton Springs from July 27 to September 4. Come on by! 
 

Gallery Minders

At the gallery, where I'm showing work, there is always a lovely person to greet me. When I say my name, they, every single one, lights up and smiles, declaring that they liked these works. I remembered today to ask why. The answer: they are full of color and make her happy. She'd like one in her bedroom to look at. Perfect answer!
 

Need a Magnifier?

The show I saw Thursday at the Art Gallery had prints with extreme detail. This stash of magnifying glasses stood ready for anyone who might need a closer look. But I can't see they were used much. Too pretty of a display in themselves, I think.
 

Exhibition at Nu Mvment

My work was installed today at Nu Mvmnt here in Rochester. The space is a facility for yoga, pilates, and dance. And, for those art lovers, it has an expanse of gallery wall space perfect for two dimensional work. I'll be there for the First Fridays in August and September for gallery open night.

Highfield Hall on a Fiber Diet

Finished installation of over 40 pieces in Highfield Hall in Falmouth, Massachusetts. What a beautiful marriage of traditional architecture and modern textiles. I am honored be on view for April! And I will be teaching there April 28, so even more fun.

Design in Fiber at University Gallery

Now officially open is my exhibit at the University Gallery at RIT. Running till January 13, in this great space. Hours are 9-5 Monday through Friday, and 10-2 on Saturday. Reception for this show is December 6 from 6-8. A cup of cider and sweets awaits you that evening. Me too.

Mom as Artist

Got the family to the exhibition today (at last). Lots of discussion on the titles from my editors and wordsmiths. Made notes for future works.
