Good Fun for All

Today opened the exhibit at the Little Theater Cafe. We had David Russell and his autoharp, lots of cookies, nibbles, a few bottles of wine, and of course wonderful friends who joined us on a perfectly sunny day. Thanks to the arts community for their support, for showing up and sharing their time.
 

On Site Personality

The Little Theater Cafe entrance has a title panel that explains the show's concept. This is not a pristine, white walled gallery, but rather one with personality, with a very different subset of people. It will spark good dialog among people who came for the music, and got visual art in the mix.
 

Entry Signs

 

Many years of designing exhibits taught me that wayfinding and label heirarchy were important. Before reaching the entry to the cafe, where the exhibit is hung, is a 4'x 8' black board that holds one piece of Judy's and one of mine. The title and thematic blurb is there and all the contact info. We hung today.

High Squareness

Reaching for this to add to the little exhibit this week, but needed a name. I'll have to go with "Hens and Chickens" for this one. Though it's much more! And for what it's worth, there are only two yard fabrics used here.
 

How It Shows Up

You've seen this piece at its start, in bits here and there, as it went through the formative process and is now finished. This is a view that shows scale, not the details or closeup showing the print quality. I like to show the way it fits in the room. And I wanted to live with it a few days before it hangs October away.

 

Hung Up

We've decided (my literary commity) that this will be name 'Slight of Hand' and I've added it to my design all after trimming but before facing it. It was a long longarm day yestereay, and at about 70" square, a bit of time to trim and face. Why are my days so short of time?
 

New and Hungup

This gives you a sense of how a 30" square can look in scale with the room. I've not a lot of wall space, but I love to see what happens when these go from design wall to living wall. I've made this specific size to work with a same-sized painting for an October exhibit with my friend Judy Gohringer. 

Back to the Studio

You see a cropped look at the piece I'm aiming to make a 30" square. It'll be close call here as I wasn't keeping to my 3" rule --  make it oversized by 3" -- one for the quilting, one for the square, and one for the facing. This will take some fine trimming.  Why do I make this so difficult? 
 

An Another to Pair

I've set out to make one specifically to a size and purpose. I've started with this group of discards because the shapes  appealls to me. It needs to finish at 30" square, so I' aiming to rough it to 32 - 33 before quilting, trimming and facing. I allow an inch for each one of those tasks. 
 

New and Just Hungup

My cape-coddie house hasn't a lot of wall space, but what's there holds the rotating collection. This is the latest, all set to go for October's little show at The Little Cafe. It's based on Make It & Break It, and I used the parts for a while in demonstration. Time to decide and finish, I thought. 
 

Workable Square

I'm compilimg a set of works that are based on a square. This is a composition that may become larger (still square format) but is split almost down the middle and has two different base prints. It is the common background yellow that allows one to flow in to the other. Love when that happens.
