Being One with Your Sketch

Tracey is working on some small compositions, and discovered that she has repeated a motif of curved and angular lines. I notice that her shirt seemed coordinated to her designs. Tomorrow is the second day in Ithaca, New York, for my workshop for this great group of very hard-working fiber artists.

Bit of Keukenhof (Garden of the Kitchen)

This is the little Keukenhof of Aafke's garden today. Even though (as she pointed out) it is passed its prime, it is just perfect for me. Tomorrow is the workshop for "Cutting Up the Pretties".

Tile Heaven

A ceramic extravaganza sits in the Botanical Garden in Albuquerque with a trickle of water running down either end from the center. It is a fountain, no, a seat, no sculpture. I am getting my thinset and trowel.

New Forms of French Fry

I have no idea what these underwater creatures are, but had to record them (to remember them) from the Albuquerque Zoo. Kinda like a Betty Busby form, right?

Sun Catchers

At Bandelier National Park, in New Mexico, this was the outdoor teaching place. The stretched fabric was the perfect foil to the relentless sun. I just found my box of sunbrella fabric, and might just take a lesson on what to do with it.

A Little Ink

Last week, the Rochester Magazine ran a four page spread about wonderful me. Love to meet my friends who had no idea what I was or did. They just know me for being me. Guess the word's out.

From the Folk Art Musem in Santa Fe

A jar, probably Acoma, was on view in Santa Fe. Its form is so beautiful. Years ago I was fortunate to design cases for the Lewis Henry Morgan collection at the Rochester Museum and Science Center. I loved handling the collection, and seeing this jar, with exciting graphics, took me back.

Greeting Me at Home

I arrived back in Upstate New York mid week, and this is what was there to greet me. The air was pungent. (I just want my friends to know I am around.) But I still have many pics to share of my New Mexico trip, so more to come.

Rock, Paper, Scissors

Along Canyon Road, in Santa Fe, is this whimsy. Not just for gamers, this sculpture is a fun look for anyone who might want to be taken literally.

Resist Temptation

A walk through Bandelier National Park in New Mexico takes one by groups of collected shards. We were instructed to leave artifacts alone, but someone (well, many, actually) left them in the open for all to see. The striped lines are painted, and many were similar  This craft still echoes what was the traditional pot from 1300. Or 1400.

Betty Busby's World

Circles, dots, cellular forms -- all are found in Betty Busby's work. It intrigues me to see the range of pattern and motif. And she has more ways to skin a cat than anyone I know. If you are lucky, you could take a class from her at Art Quilt Santa Fe. Maybe someday, I will.
